Today I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH, USA.

As I was veiwing the John Lennon display (of the British group THE BEATLES) one of the songs they made popular came to mind.

"All we are saying, is give peace a chance"

I thought of how the world had changed since the days when he advocated peace.

It really made me sad.

Anyone care to comment?

The music of the 60's reflect the spirit of the the quest for truth, liberty, and justice. Especially the youth who could see through the lies and hypocracy of the status quo. The zite-giest caught the Temporal Powers by surprise. But, it was only a matter of a few years that that spirit was nipped in the bud. Success which was awarded on one hand, was slowly squashed with social poisions, and even assassination, on the other.

Music itself is a powerful force in life. It can enoble the spirit, or envoke the basest beast from within. Since the 60's, "pop" music has slithered down the scales to the basest rhythms of "Rap" and "Hip Hop", with frank language and video images that would even make a sailor blush.

The powers that be, have learned the power of media control. Even the internet, which is a boon to all mankind with instant communication, is rapidly becoming an instrument of intrusion into your own living room. Fire Walls can be penetrated, and your every document monitored. Big Brother finally has a way into your inner sanctum. Orwell was only off by about fifteen years.

You can access every members threads and reponses to other threads on this forum. It is a nice feature. I find it handy to locate threads which are perhaps a few months in the past. However, we must pray that "third parties" never gain access to our registraion data. "The New World Order" is rapidly sinking its' roots into our "FREE" turf, even as some of us may be cheering on its' sweeping reforms.

But I digress! Music is a powerful instrument. In Islam, much of it has been warned against, while that which is wholesome, has been allowed. I have even tried not listening to any music at all, but, I found that feat is almost an impossibity in my culture, as the mass media is so pervasive, that no matter where you go, you are assailed by the sounds of music.

I prefer the music of birds in the early morning.

I look back now on those times (I'm in my mid 40's) and realize how innocent it was here in the world.

Things of violence were appalling.

Maybe it's just because I've grown up

Are you old enough to remember Charlie Manson?

He based all the killings in 69 on the album because the lyrics told him to kill whitey and they'd blame the blacks and start a war.......
