UK Islamic Events for Friday 6th February 2004
Assalámu'alaikum wa Rahmatulláhi wa Barakátuhu.
The purpose of this noticeboard is to advertise Islamic events taking place within the UK. These include lectures, regular circles, classes and sports activities, as well as one-off seminars, conferences and exhibitions. We also put up notices for accomodation, jobs, items for sale, Islamic projects, schools, counselling services, etc. Many of you will already be familiar with the noticeboard, having received weekly e-mails over the last year. We are open to all Muslims and you are welcome to advertise any event as long as it is Islamic in nature and does not harm the interests of others. We look forward to your participation.

THE JOURNEY OF LOVE (Rihlat al-Hubb)
Exclusive commentary on Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim's poem 'Qasídah Mímiyyah'
by Hafiz Dr Usama bin Suhaib Hasan
Date: Sunday 8th February (THIS SUNDAY)
Time: 11.00 am - 1.00 pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Ave (on the corner with Romford Rd),
Manor Park, London, E12 5JF
The Journey of Love, an extract from Ibn al-Qayyim's Qasídah Mímiyyah,
is an immensely eloquent and inspiring poem that masterfully combines
references to the outer physical actions of the Hajj with the
Pilgrimage's inner spiritual effects and etiquettes. The different
stages of the Hajj are described in ways that evoke the real passions,
emotions and inward spiritual states of billions of pilgrims ever since
the Ka'bah was built by the first man on earth, Adam (as).
The talk will include a commentary on the many profound, yet subtle,
aspects of the poem that may not be obvious upon first reading. It
will be of interest to those returning from Hajj as well as those
hoping to make the blessed journey one day.

WARNING ABOUT "VALENTINES" KISMET EVENT IN EAST LONDON
Normally we are quite flexible about advertising events run by
Muslims irrespective of their school of thought. We also try our
best to give benefit of the doubt, and not criticise people
unnecessarily. However, this event is absolutely pathetic!
Marriage events are no doubt required to address the obvious
need in our community, but a "Valentines" event? Ask yourselves,
honestly, how can we as Muslims promote a marriage event (where
people are supposed to be trying to fulfil half their deen) in
the name of this annual fornication-ridden orgy. No, it's not
just an innocent time of the year to strengthen the bonds of
love between married couples - don't even try that one. It's
filthy, that's what it is!
The advert reads, "We shall be conducting fun games and events
with a buffet lunch to help you relax and enjoy the experience".
Fun games?! I wonder how halal these fun games are going to be.
And to make things worse, the ticket prices are £35 for ladies
and £10 for men! Isn't this like those discos where the ladies
come for free before 11.30 pm while guys pay £15?
Events like this really give a bad name to those who are trying
hard to organise proper marriage events in a halal way and impart
some Islamic understanding in the process. For this reason we
have no choice but to expose this event.
We ask our brothers and sisters at MPAC, who are promoting the
event to forgive us if we have hurt them, but please take this
as a sincere piece of advice. Leave marriage events to those
with relevant Islamic knowledge, understanding and ettiquettes,
based on scholarly advice. Concentrate on what MPAC are good at,
i.e. alerting the Muslim community about anti-Islamic bias in the
media, training people to deal with the media in its different
forms, and activating Muslims to put pressure on MPs and members
of other institutions. Alhamdulillah, this is where MPAC's
expertise lies, not in organising marriage events.
