Islamic Circles Presents an 'After Hajj Reflection' :

THE JOURNEY OF LOVE (RIHLAH AL-HUBB) - A extract from Allamah Ibn Al-Qayyim's peom 'Qasidah Mimiyyah'
By Hafiz Dr. Usama b. Suhaib b. 'Abdul Ghaffar Hasan(Cambridge, London)*

Date: Sunday 8th February 2004
Time: 11am-1pm

The Journey of Love (Rihlah al-Hubb), an extract from
Ibn al-Qayyim's Qasidah Mimiyyah, is an immensely
eloquent and inspiring poem that masterfully combines
references to the outer physical actions of the Hajj
with the Pilgrimage's inner spiritual effects and
etiquettes.

The pilgrims' yearning and longing for the Divine
Beloved is manifested in the patience with which they
lovingly endure the hardships of the long and
difficult, yet magnificent, journey to the House of
Allah at the centre of the Holy Sanctuary at Makkah,
birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, final Messenger of
Allah to mankind, may peace and blessings be upon him.

The different stages of the Hajj: the assuming of the
state of ihram from the Miqat; the first glimpse of
the Ka'bah; the devotions offered at 'Arafat,
Muzdalifah and Mina; the "stoning of the devil"
ritual; the return and final visits to the Ka'bah --
all of these are described in ways that evoke the real
passions, emotions and inward spiritual states of
billions of pilgrims ever since the Ka'bah was built
by the first man on earth, Adam, peace be upon him.

The talk will include commentary on the many profound,
yet subtle, aspects of the poem that may not be
obvious upon first reading.

The Journey of Love (Arabic-English, 24 pp, PB, ISBN
0-907770-03-7) is available for £2.00 (+ 50p p&p) from
Al-Quran Society, 34 Francis Road, London E10 6PW, and
will also be available at the talk.
