Womens Seminar: Hijab ban in France - What is the response of Muslim women in the UK?

Hundreds of Muslim women from the UK are set to discuss the French proposal to ban the Islamic headscarf at a national seminar in London this Sunday, 25th January 2004. The seminar entitled "Hijab ban in France - What is the response of Muslim women in the UK?" is organised by sisters of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, who successfully organised last weeks march in London.

The seminar will examine the French move to outlaw the Islamic dress for women and will challenge the myth that Muslim women are oppressed and forced into blindly adopting the Islamic attire. The event will encourage the audience to correctly respond to the French moves by challenging secularism and maintaining their Islamic identity.

Speakers at the seminar will include Imrana Zallum, an English teacher, and Ibtihal Bsis, a barrister and member of Hizb ut-Tahrir from France.

The seminar will take place on Sunday January 25th 2004 at 2.30 p.m. at Brondesbury Park Hotel, 233 Willesden Lane, London, NW2 5RP [nearest tube: Willesden Green].
