View Full Version : The Stranger

A few months before I was born, my dad met a stranger who was new to our small town.

From the beginning, dad was fascinated with this enchanting new comer and soon invited him to live with our family. Though his outside apperance was not attractive, the 'stranger' was quickly accepted, and was around to welcome me into the world a few months later.

As I grew up, I never questioned his place in the family. In my young mind, each member had a specific niche. My parents were complementary instructors. Mum taught me to love Allah and dad taught me to obey Him.

But the 'stranger' was our storyteller. He would weave the most fascinating tales. Adventures, mysteries and comedies were daily conversations. He could hold our whole family spell bond for hours each evening and would consume most of our time over the weekend.

If I wanted to know about politics, history, science; he knew it all. He knew about the past and understand the present. The pictures he could draw where so life-like that I would often laugh or cry as I watched. He was like a friend to the whole family.

He was always encouraging us to see the movies and made arrangements to introduce us to several famous people. The 'stranger' was an incessant talker. Dad did not seem to mind but sometimes mum would quietly get up, while the rest of us were engrossed with one of his stories of far away places, she would go to her room and read the Quraan.

She would quietly tell us that the Holy Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) said (something similiar to):

"THE BEAUTY OF ONE'S FAITH IS SHUNNING ALL NON-PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES".

I wonder now if she had ever prayed that the 'stranger' would leave. You see,my dad ruled the household with certain moral convictions, but this 'stranger' never obligated to honour them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in the house, from us, from our friends nor from anybody else.

Our long time visitor however, used four letter words that burned my ears and made dad squirm. To my knowledge the 'stranger' was never confronted by anyone.

My dad was a teetotaller (a person who advocates total abstinence from intoxicants) who did not even permit alcohol in his home, but the 'stranger' felt that we needed exposure and enlightened us to other ways of life.

He offered us beer and other alcoholic beverages often. He made cigarettes look appealing. He encouraged us to flirt with women. I know now that my early concepts of the man and women relationships were influenced by the 'stranger'.

As I look back I believe that it was Allah's mercy that the 'stranger' did not influence us more. More than thirty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family. But if I had to walk in my parents's bedroom, I would still see him sitting in a corner waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures and enchant his audience with his magic.

His name you may ask.........we call him the T.V.

It isn't hard at all. :D

Try diverting your attention- ie: planning something at the time your programme is gonna be on or go out with friends etc.

Soon enough you will not miss it at all. :inlove:

Nah, I dont really watch it anyway, only a few things, makes a total of about 5 hours per week, but thats only because I like those and I wont stop watching them.

But yeh, it is a waste of time, thats why I only watch a few things, but sometimes I do watch alot of documentarys about things, they are nice and educating and quite a bit of news too.

I like the tv, i look especially at documentary. The last one what i saw it was about the chinese ladies whom upto 1920 broke their feets to be smaller. It was fashion. They had small shoes and the leg was bound. From where else i could know such a fact? Only from tv:eek2:

agree with bro kohr ah. mahdi, there is too much sexuality everywhere, if u are living in the west. even in the streets. muslims have to control wat they look at . tv is good if u filter wat u watch, just like how u use the internet. thats just my opinion n e way.

I dunno....

I mean even with the news, there is bound to be pictures shown of women uncovered etc...

With documentaries, adverts that blare out sex in your face.

If we can avoid it, we should. :(

I have a better adea.
We go back to our lands and get rid of the tyrants that is governing our lands.

And then, we get rid of the jews and the americans in muslim nations and unite muslim lands to one.

Or what do you think??

hmm sis you are probably right, but as kohr said it depends what you watch. I suppose you could disapline urself to only watch what you know is gonna be ok, & some progs are actually more than OK especially if u get arabic satellite because they do have some educational islamic programs like talks from shayookh etc
but since the mentioned the uncovered women, I've got a question about it : most of the women on telly are uncovered only to the extent that they dont have hijab etc, they do wear clothes...so for females, if they see that on the telly, is that a problem? i would have thought not cuz we are allowed 2 see people's hair n whatever...n if there were men and women on telly showing what we aren't allowed to see, we should turn that on off obviously but as the norm, usually every one is covered to an extent that we are allowed to see them, and so are the men covered at least from navel 2 knees (& nearly always more)
do you get my Question? & if u want we can take it 2 the sis section rather than here but I dunno

I don't mean those who live with muslims, only those as israel. americans and those false FN.

They are only poppets to the americans.

"Fight, but fight in the way of God against those who fight against you, drive them out in to places where they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaghter, fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for God, but if they stop let the be no more war, for God never love the starter of wars, so fight in the way of God against those who fight against you".
