what do girls think of males with beards? Do they find them religious or more attractive?
Aisha [ra], the wife of the Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] used to take an oath by saying "by Him who has beautified men with beards..."

well it shows he could be more serious in his religion cuz he's tryna make himself look how he shud accordin 2 sunnah, and aswell you can look more of a well matched couple when the husband wears a beard n stuff, because sometimes its just the wife properly covered wiv hijaab or niqaab or whatever, then the hubby just looks like any other bloke on the street

Generally more attractive depending on neatness of the beard in question.
I try not to think about it in the 'more religious' context because some men are unable to grow beards (further then stubble) no matter how hard they try and it is unfair on them, cos they may be more religious anyway.

More like Attractive, because you can't just judge someone's beard on their character or their islam in whole. It's good to see brothers who follow the sunnah.

They are following the example of our Prophet (PBUH). which is very good. and to me its only attractive, if the beard is kept nice and tidy :p

Hadith from Shahi Bukhari.
Vol 7, Book 72. Dress. Hadith 780.
Narrated By Nafi' : Ibn Umar said, The Prophet said, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the beards and cut the moustaches short.' Whenever Ibn 'Umar performed the Hajj or 'Umra, he used to hold his beard with his hand and cut whatever moustaches. Ibn Umar used to cut his moustache so short that the whiteness of his skin (above the upper lip) was visible, and he used to cut (the hair) between his moustaches and his beard.
Hadith from Maliks Muwatta.
Book 51. Hair. Hadith 007.
Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that Ata ibn Yasar told him that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was in the mosque when a man came in with dishevelled hair and beard. The Messenger of Allah. may Allah bless him and grant him peace, motioned with his hand that he should be sent out to groom his hair and beard. The man did so and then returned. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Isn't this better than that one of you should come with his head dishevelled, as if he were a shaytan?"

Well beards rock  keep 'em growing lads. :p
I found this on some other site I love it. :rotfl:
"Glorified be He who beautifies women
with long locks of hair
And Men with long beards
There is beauty in the beard
Aye, there is beauty in the beard!
When the lion roars all the animals submit
For the lion is the king of the jungle
The lion with its glorious mane
And a Muslim man grows his mane in pride
Showing the rest of humanity that he is to be respected
Can one imagine a lion without its mane?
Nay, thou canst not!
Then imagine a man without his beard
Woe to worldly women who mock the beards so!
Desiring husbands with clean shaven faces
Woe to women who mock the Prophets Sunnah
In the name of hygiene, neatness and smooth texture
Indeed the women of this world cannot like the beard
But she who wants Paradise adores the beard!
A beard is a gift given to man
Something only he can grow; a woman never can!
When he ponders, he gently strokes it;
When he eats, it stores food;
When he is with kids, they play with it adoringly;
When he is with his wife, she fondles it lovingly;
When the enemy see it, fear is struck in their hearts!
Ah! there is indeed beauty in the beard!
All the Prophets had beards - yes they did!
Muhammad had a beard - so big! so big!
All the companions had beards - o yes! o yes!
All the sages had beards - I know! I know!
All the wise have beards - tis true! tis true!
All the pious have beards - you see! you see!
All the Muslims have beards!? - if only! if only!
Who did not have beards? The kafirun!
Who had clean shaven faces? The kafirun!
Who grew their moustaches? The kafirun!
"And what did our Prophet order?" I here you ask
He ordered us to lengthen the beard
and trim the moustache!
Lengthen the beard and trim the moustache!
What greater reason that this can there be
The fact that our Prophet told us to see
That we make ourselves appear to the world
As full bearded men with honour untold
O Muslim brother! Why do you desire
to look like a woman
When your blessed facial hair is the difference
between you and the opposite gender?
O poor Muslim brother! Why do you imitate the kafir
Instead of following the Prophet of Islam?
O Muslim sister! Why are you so blind?
Infatuated with Bollywood actors who have no mind!
O wretched sister! Are you not scared of your choice?
You would rather have a feminine monkey
instead of an exalted manly ape! lool :D
So indeed I love my beard
And adore the curls and tangles
Which no oil, gel or superglue can ever straighten
My glorious long, curly, messy, fluffy beard!
The playhouse for kids;
The envy of Malaysian people
And the beloved of Allah!
I maybe rejected by worldly women
because of this hair on my face
But who care! For my Mum loves it
and she puts all such sisters to disgrace!
Be patient Muslim brothers, who shun
the trendy look for a Prophetic pose
Paradise with the wide eyed Houris
is our final abode!!!!!"

actually it is possible to wear beards.... i've heard of incidents where an imam (clean shaven) put on a thobe, turban a fake beard just before he led the salaah!!
Question
We cannot shave our beards, but can we trim it? If yes, how short?
Fatwa
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Growing (leaving) the beard and trimming mustaches is an obligatory act in Islam in obedience with the command of Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). It is proved in SAHIHAIN, IBN UMAR narrated, Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Cut the mustaches and grow your beards. Be different from the polytheists”. Shaving beard is a disobedience to Allah and his Prophet ( Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), Allah Says (Interpretation of meaning): " And let those who oppose the Messenger's (Muhammad SAW) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.) befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them. Trimming (cutting) the beard is a violation of SUNNAH. Prophet’s (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) beard covered his noble chest. There is no sound Hadith proving that the Prophet cut or decreased his noble beard. Narrated from IBN OMAR (May Allah be pleased with him) that he cut what exceeds a handful in length of his beard. So if the beard exceeds in length one handful, the excess hair could be trimmed without being against the Shari’ah i.e., (unlawful). Allah knows best.

Hey i have a question, is beard Wajib or sunnah?
truepath

Imaam Bukhari (Radhiallaahu Anhu) reports on the authority of Naafi' who narrates from Abdullah ibn Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'Oppose the Mushrikeen (polytheists); lengthen the beard and trim the moustache.'
Naafi' further states, 'And ibn Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) during Hajj or Umrah used to hold on to his beard with his fist and cut off whatever was in excess of that.' (Bukhari vol.2 pg.875; Kitaab-ul-Libaas)
Through this Hadith, the verdict of the growing of the beard being ***Waajib*** (obligatory) is deduced. That is because any explicit command of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) will be regarded as Waajib, if there is no apparent, clear reason/proof which states that that particular command is for Istihbaab (preference). This is an established fact in Usool-ul-Fiqh (principles of jurisprudence).
Moreover, the Wujoob is further emphasized by the fact that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) did practice on this in his entire life. Know well that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not trim his beard in his life (there is no Sahih Hadith which proves otherwise). However, because the narrator himself (Ibn Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) did trim his beard upto a fist's length, this implies that the Wujoob of keeping a beard is up to a fist length only.
Furthermore, such has also been reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra (Radhiallaahu Anhu) and other Taabi'een. (Tamheed of ibn Abdul-Barr and Fathul Baari). Therefore, the meaning of our statement that you question is, 'If any person has trimmed his beard upto less than one fist, then his beard will not be a Shar'ee beard.'
Lastly, for your knowledge, the sayings and actions of the Sahaaba (Radhiallaahu Anhum) is a Hujjah (proof) according to the majority of the scholars. However, the conditions for acceptance may differ. This is also an established principle in Usool-ul-Fiqh. Hence, the refutation of a Shar'ee beard by the scholar you have mentioned does not hold any weight in front of the Shar'ee proof we have mentioned.

Allaamah ibnul Hummaam (RA) has mentioned that nobody has permitted the trimming of the beard upto less than a fist’s length. (Fathul Qadeer; Shaami)
Hereunder are quotations from the Ulama of the other Madhaahib which support this. However, we suggest that you also contact the experts of each of these Madhaahib for more clarity.
The Shaafi’ee Madhab
Allaamah Nawawi (RA) states, ‘The correct view (according to the Shaafi’ee Madhab) is to leave it upto as long as it grows and it is Makrooh to trim it whatsoever.’ (al-Majmoo vol.1 pg.290)
Allaamah al-Iraaqi (RA) states in his book entitled, ‘Tarhu Tathreeb’ (vol.2 pg.8): ‘… that the best is to leave the beard totally and not to cut anything from it at all, and this is the view of Imaam al-Shaafi’ee and his students.’
There are quotations from 2 great scholars of the Shaafi’ee Madhab that do not permit the trimming of the beard at all, not even upto one fist. However, there are some Shaafi’ee scholars who have permitted to trim upto one fist, such as Imaam al-Ghazzaali (RA) – see Ihyaa
The Maaliki Madhab
Imaam Abul-Waleed al-Baaji al-Maaliki (RA) has stated that: It has been narrated from Imaam Maalik that he permitted the slight trimming of those hairs that are overgrown and are outside the general growth of the rest of the hair, and that Imaam Maalik was asked about a beard that had grown extremely long, he replied that it should be trimmed a bit.’
Imaam Abul-Waalid further explains upto what extent could it be trimmed by saying, ‘And it has been narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar and Abu Hurayra (Radhiallaahu Anhum) that they trimmed upto one fist.’ Hence, this is what was meant by Imaam Maalik. (refer al-Muntaqa vol.7 pg.266)
Imaam al-Qurtubi al-Maaliki (RA) has also mentioned something similar to this in his commentary of Sahih Muslim. (see al-Mufhim vol.1 pg.513)
The Hanbali Madhab
Imaam Saamiri (RA) – who is an expert Hanbali Faqeeh (jurists) - states: And he should not trim any bit from the beard except if he wishes to do so upto the extent of one fist. However, it will be best if he doesn’t do so.’ (al-Mustaw’ib vol.1 pg.260 – see Hukm al-Lihya fil Madhaahibil arba’ah; Abdul-Aziz al-Nu’maani pg.50)
Another Hanbali scholars, Imaam Shamsuddeen al-Maqdisi states, ‘It is forbidden to shave the beard and it is not Makrooh to trim what is in excess of a fist’s length… because this is supported by the practice of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu).’ (Kitaabul Furoo vol.1 pg.130; Ibid)
Similar verdicts are found in other sources of Hanbali Fiqh such as al-Mubdi of ibn Muflih, al-Insaaf of al-Maawardi; Kashful Qinaa, etc. (Ibid)
All these quotations have mentioned that it is only permissible to trim the beard if it is done upto a fist’s length. In fact, according to some of these quotations, it will be better not to trim it at all.

From the above 2 post two points get clear.
1) All FOUR school of thoughts say that beard should be grown atleast upto 1 fist if it grows.
2) To grow beard is considered as Wajib as per the above 2 post for people who wants to accept it. As for those who dont want to accept it, may Allah guide us with the correct understanding of deen.
P.S: I heard from Ulama that Nabi (SAW) carried out such actions that were also practiced by all other Ambiah. All Prophets had beard and not just our prophet (SAW).
Christians who changed their religion to such a great extent still make the idol of Isa (AS) with beard.
In Quran Allah stated a verse which gives us the idea that Haroon (AS), the brother of Musa(AS) had beard. When Haroon (AS) says to Musa(AS) something to the effect as " O son of my mother, do not hold me with my beard."
So, to grow beard is to 'imitate' the act of all the Prophets from Adam (AS) till prophet Muhammad (SAW).
