I thought perfumes, deodorants and scents in general would be used very sparingly among followers of the Muslim faith, but to my slight surprise Jamila said in another thread that perfumes were one of her weaknesses!
Could you elucidate me what the Quran says about the use of perfumes. They attract men in the same way as beautiful women. Somewhere women are forced to wear burqas, but as far as I know they are not compelled to be in hermetic garments.
If scents are permissible, my earlier belief would seem to be true. Namely, I opined that Allah would treat the senses differently. Eyesight is worsened by the use of burqas or by the fact that you can't even see the concealed person in question, whereas the use of the nose is perfectly ok.

I love perfumes, but in Islam you are not meant to wear it to attract the opposite sex, but men are encouraged to wear perfume in Islam, and women can wear it too but only in modesty!

And whereas the burqa is concerned that is not a must, but voluntarily, Islam allows women to uncover their face and hands!

Yes, it may, but I have an experience from the outskirts of the Sahara that even hands which are not covered fully can lead to people thowing tomatoes at you! This happened to a lady friend of mine who was travelling in the same group.
Maybe her face should have been covered as well. Quite unusual for a Westerner who doesn't even follow Islam.

As salaamu alaikum brothers and sisters on this thread....tolerant kufr salaams 2 U 2 ;)
Ahhh....how I do love the world of fragrance! I think it all comes from my love of fragrant flowers and plants...oh yes, and also my work as an aromatherapist and student of Unani medicine.
Sis Jamila...wallahi! You also love fragrances? Ma'shAllah. You would love our oils in egypt! My own personal treat to myself is after shower daily I make a cream using a different blend of essential oils for my skin. In this way, I do not use any spray-on perfumes filled of alcohol. Besides I think, perfumes smell so fake and to me, they make me ill. I prefer more natural subtle fragrances. Mixtures of Lime, Lavender and Frankincense to feel refreshed and relaxed or a mixture of Orange, Rosemary and Jasmine to feel mentally stimulated and feminine...oh, I could go on!
Also, just a note on deoderants. It is better to make your own. I have a very simple mixture that if any are interested I would be pleased to share. The deoderants in today's market are full of aluminum which after many studies are determining to be leading cause of breast cancer in both men and women. Today's deoderants are made to cover the sweat that should be released from the body to avoid build up of internal toxins. An underarm deoderant should allow the skin to breathe and expell the bacteria filled sweat. Many do not know that under the arms and between the thighs are the areas we release the most sweat. That is why drinking of water is so important....not only easily digestable but helps the flow of sweat....
The human body is facinating...sorry to interrupt the thread you all had going, but I love this topic ;)
Wasalaam ;) sis M.

Monikha's observations were most interesting. There was one thing which I thought would be impossible, but I found confirmation in the net that men can, in fact, have breast cancer, as you pointed out. It is rare, of course.
Making your own deodorant must be quite challenging and I'm afraid that most people still resort to the old supermarket and buy whatever is available. All deodorants don't, of course, contain alcohol or propellants.
Hello/Salaam Miss Monikha

I use olive oil - straight just like that on my skin. It is really nice and leave you very soft.
I have been thinking of some scented oils in the olive oil. I think its real important to keep the scent light. I have to find a good place that sells good oil.
I currently use coconut oil for my hair. I have really frizzy bushy hair and it helps it get some order.

I have been using the store stuff for a long time -- but I used to just put jasmine or rose oil under my arms. Another disadvantage of the commercial stuff, especially the white stuff, is that it leave a waxy buildup on your clothes that is impossible to get out. (guess they mix wax into it to help it keep its shape) I would really love to hear your recipe for your deodorant. Ever see that crystal that some people use?
