View Full Version : why do I live?

How does one justify a purpose to their life, and explain an emptiness that prevails? Do we live like blind groping animals, or like wind up toys, who having been wound up for a certain length of time, and then commence moving around, living, without even knowing why? Without ever considering a ‘why?’, just a ‘way it is’? I would very much appreciate it if one day someone who loves to repeat the aforesaid phase when faced with having to justify the universe and existence; would tell me what exactly this ‘it’ is. No being can ever claim to have solved any enigma of existence, however every wind-up toy, I’m sure, would want nothing but to know of the sublime impetus that had wound them up. “What is it that winds me, why do I live?”

Allah knows best, but we are created for a fixed time in which we should worship Allah and none but Allah, our main aim in this earth should be to worship Allah and follow Allah' guidance in the Quran and the sunnah (hadith)!

That 'it' can be found through some organisation in your life, thorugh some plan or a worksheet that tells you this is what you are aiming for and this is what you have got to do.

Now how do you find the right action plan for your life?

Many people find it through drinking and enjoying themselves, and rushing life away, but still, they actually wont find 'it' at all.

Many people find it by escaping this world and by meditating the mysteries of life.

But Many, many people find it by religion.

You will know when you have found it, as I have found with my religion, you will just know.

To me my religion is just that. I know where I intend to go, and I try my upmost to stick to my lifes action plan. I have organisation in my life, everything I do is for a reason.

I know that this islam is for me, I know it is true in my heart, and I know it like if you tip a glass full of water over, the water wills pill. that is how much I know it in my heart.

This knowingness that I feel and I know changed my life when I knew it.

It is upto everyone, they owe it to themselves, to find that thing that will sort out their life and give it a purpose. It is a must, as you dont want to discove lifes purpose when ure dead and realise you did nothing to fulfil it.

Funny, I never think about that. I believe that there is no purpose. There is just life. I am one who falls into that camp which feels that if there are any answers, we can never *know* them, and can also accept that there may be no answers, no purpose, and thats ok.

Life is an enigma, the answer lies within all of us, and the key that unlocks the door is Love for all people.

Alhamdulillah for his Mercy and Guidance in the Qur'an.. That's right, outsider: To establish the Khalifa on Earth.

Raafi, below, is also right. The priority and purpose of our lives is to worship Allah alone. I meant that establishing Islam is our Earthly duty in our society and in future generations.

Allah says in quran that He has created us for no other purpose than to worship Him

That is our purpose, to worship our Lord, thru prayers, fasting, charity, going to work and taking care of our families, by standing up for right and standing against wrong

worship is also to abstain from all things forbidden to you by your Lord, drinking, gambling, worshipping other than your Lord, etc

all of this is worship of Allah if you are doing it to please Him

so to answer the original question, you live because Allah has decreed life for you and the purpose of Him giving you life is to worship your Lord

Machi, i am going to try to answer that question in light of the general attitude i see on this board

EVERYONE should be muslim, meaning, everyone submitting to the Lord of the Worlds, Allah sent His Prophets with all the same message, people are the ones who broke it off into this or that group.

Islam, as revealed by Allah to His Last Messenger (sas) is THE complete religion that Allah has ordained for All of mankind

If people do or do not want to accept islam, that is between them and their Lord, on the day of judgement all of us have to stand before our Lord and answer for our lives here

Being a muslim is not part of this or that gang, or organization, or even this or that religion

Being muslim is being one who accepts the Lord of creation as He has defined Himself and following the universal message that all of His prophets left us.

If you had jesus, moses, muhammad, and all of the rest of the prophets all in a room together, they would greet each other as brothers who were sent to deliver the one single message from Allah to mankind

I hope i have done some good in this response

and moreso, to answer your direct question, you would have to ask a christian or a jew

[ Absolutely, Raafi. A Muslim is anyone who submits and serves The One God. The same God that Jews and Christians believed and believe in. A man could spend all his life in a jungle and never meet a Jew, Christian or a Muslim. But if he prays and asks of The One, he has surrendered to The One.
My sister asked me "why would a man pray to a God he's never heard of."
It is pschologically proven that by nature humans are monotheistic. We call out to The One, ("oh God"). Most of us as children pray to one God. It is due to outside influences that people associate partners to God.
Even Hindus say there is one God, he just came down in different forms. Greeks admit their gods are 'mythical'.
Where followers of Muhammad differ is that they don't accept the trinity or for God to be in need of a son. We believe the respected Jesus(pbuh) was a Prophet of God. (he himself said "pray to The Father") Early Christians fought to preserve the message of Jesus to pray to The One.
Where the Jews differ is that they they accept neither Jesus nor Muhammad as messengers of God. But they firmly believe in One Great God.
Christians say there is One God, but in the form of a trinity, the father the son and the holy ghost.
We believe that God only has to say "be and it shall be!"and therefore has no need for a holy ghost to bless the virgin Mary with a child. After all he created Adam from nothing. And he does not need a son to come down to earth. He sends angel Gabriel (Arabic: Jibrael) to give his message to the Prophets.
I believe that it is up to God's (Arabic: Allah) discretion who He accepts as truly surrendering to Him. Not all people who call themselves Muslims are true Muslims.
Allah knows best.

furthermore, the jews have changed the aqeedah of their prophets, never did god say he was the god of the jews

there is no personal god, nor a god of a people, there is only one true god, and he sent his messengers to reaffirm that to all people till the end of time

on a different note, many people spend their lives searching for the secret or mystery of life, looking and wandering aimlessly for truth and the reality of their purpose and existence

and all the while, they turn away from the finality of gods message as revealed to the prophet muhammad to last till eternity

its so simple it has become difficult for them

sadly, muslims have not been the best example, but part of truth is to separate creation from the creator

I agree on all counts.
