I wondered for a little while what the word "avatar" meant.
Then I got some idea and thanks to this thread I now know fully what an avatar is. Let me point out again that English is not my mother tongue.

I also checked a 2000 plus page dictionary and it claimed that an avatar is a Hindu word meaning "descent of deity to the earth in an incarnate form or some manifest shape; the incarnation of god". It can also be "an embodiment or concrete manifestation, as of a principle, attitude, view of life, or the like".

A bit surprising to notice that a Muslim forum uses bits from Hinduism!

outsider: there is no suprise : , use your head avatar is an adopted hindi word, just like algebra, kaki, and lots of other words adopted by the English language from other languages it being used on this forum is not strange, in fact it is part and parcel of the php program which makes this forum.No one here had control over what words were used by the ppl who wrote the forum code.
