Ok
Here's the Scenario..
You are sitting at the computer checking out this thread on UmmahForums..
You spot something moving in the corner of your eye..
You note that it is a big hairy spider..
What do you do?..
Do you..
- Ignore it (UmmahsForum is way too exciting to be worrying about a spider)
- Run for your life and scream for HELP
- Trap the spider under a jar and leave it there
- Pick it up and release it outside
- Play games with it
- Stamp the life out of it
- Other, please state

:( Only 1 vote? If "easy" to catch (dropping from a thread) grab the thread and let it go outside (it eats other nasty bugs). If not easy then just smash it. Remember; it wouldn't be in your house if there wern't other bugs there already;)

You can't just kill or eat spiders, it's a sin.
A spider's web protected the Prophet and Abu Bakr al-Siddique from the hands of the savage Quraysh during the Hegira.
They are a great friend unto mankind. :)

Alhumdulillah, spiders are a great gift from the Almighty.
While they might scare us with their looks, spiders are highly important for our natural ecosystem.
From Dr. Linda S. Rayor's assesment of spiders:
Spiders are beneficial inhabitants of any garden, ecosystem, or home because of their important contributions to biological control of pest insects. Spiders are considered to be the most important terrestrial predators, eating tons of pest insects or other small arthropods every year. Spiders are generalist predators that are willing to eat almost any insect they can catch. They are abundant and found in most habitats.
What do spiders eat? All spiders are predators. They do not eat plants, but only other living animals. Insects, spiders, invertebrates, some small vertebrates are the typical prey items.
Are many spiders poisonous? Although there are more spiders than all vertebrate species combined, spiders are relatively poorly known and needlessly feared. Actually, there are VERY few spiders whose bites require medical attention and these species are very rare in Colorado. Most spiders do not have fangs that are strong enough to pierce human skin or venom which can affect us. Of the 38,000 spider species described, there are only four species in the USA which are poisonous (black widow, brown recluse, hobo, and yellow sac spiders). Only the ranges of the black widow and brown recluse may be uncommonly found in Colorado.
(Editor's Note: So it's only a superstition and misconception that spiders are poisonous, they truly are a blessing)
The Important Role of the Spider in Biocontrol
There are many advantages to allowing spiders to biologically control insects in your garden or farm plot. They are voracious predators found in most habitats, eat almost anything, and they are abundant. They can rapidly colonize a suitable habitat and they will eat enormous numbers of insects. Since many spiders overwinter as adults, they can reduce prey numbers early in the season before other biocontrol agents are active.
On the down side, there are also disadvantages to using spiders as the sole method of biocontrol. Because spiders are generalist predators, they do not limit their diet to pest species but will happily consume non-pest insects (such as honey bees, butterflies), other spiders and other beneficial predators (eg. preying mantises, some beetles). Many spiders are sit-and-wait predators so insect pests must come to them. Spiders have long generation times, so they cannot increase rapidly in response to an outbreak of insects.
The bottom line is that spiders are important and beneficial predators in gardens.
Head over to this amazing link (http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/CoopExt/4DMG/Pests/spiders.htm) to learn more about these fascinating creatures, who once helped the Prophet to a great extent.

Spiders contain a small amount of venom in their fangs and a lot of other unedible acids and fluids are present in their composition, therefore it is very unhealthy and sinful to eat them.
Same goes with a lot of insects, reptiles and cold-blooded creatures, and in instances when some people have actually eaten these animals, ulcers and dangerous diseases have formed in their bodies.
Other animals, like cows and sheep, are an excellent source of food for mankind. Their many advantages in addressed in many ayahs in the Noble Qu'ran. :)

Initially i would stamp the life out of it. but my thinking process would start and then i would start to think about the story that my father told me when i was a kid and how a spider saved the prophets life ( well Allah did but through the spider) so then i would just Pick it up and release it outside

I have to be honest, even thought I'm a big guy with a hairy face myself!
I'd leg it, and usually get my younger sis to take care of things! considering she's always in the house unless she's at college or out with friends. She kills it in some tissue then tries to put the tissue in my face to take the mick!
I need to sort it out thought, I've been petrified of spiders ever since I was small. Ants, beetles, cockroaches, anything else I don't mind... But for some reason spiders scare the hell out of me...

I'd rather be superman, get to fly!
Man that would save so much money and I wouldn't feel guilty about a 'carbon footprint'
Salam
I can't really predetermine my action I'll just have to see if I ever experienced it (probably go nutz). I did have a large spider on my shoulder, I shrieked -not because I was scared of it but more of a sudden shock  and my instinct was to flick it, then continued whatever I was doing

i'd scream, runnn and go bananas
If I ignore it, it will probably disappear and then crawl up to me when I'm sleeping :eek3:
I would ask my dad to remove it GENTLY. I hate it when people squash spiders. It's evil. :(
