A mighty statement of Ahmad and Ibn Mubaarak regarding the virtue of the Mujaahideen

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah – may Allaah have mercy upon him – says:

"Jihad necessitates guidance which encompasses all doors of knowledge, just like His statement, the Most High, infers: (As for those who make Jihad in Our cause, We will surely guide them to Our paths) [al-Ankaboot: 67].

He made guidance to all His paths for whosoever makes Jihad in for His sake.

And therefore, Imaam Abdullaah ibn Mubaarak and Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and others, said:

'If the people differ in something, then look at what the people of the frontiers are upon, indeed the truth is with them; because Allaah says: (As for those who make Jihad in Our cause, We will surely guide them to Our paths).'

And in Jihad also is the reality of Zuhd (abstinence) from the worldy life and the abode of this life.

In it too is the reality of Ikhlaas (sincerity).

And this talk is about who makes Jihad for His sake, not for the sake of leadership, nor for the sake of wealth, nor for the sake of emotions, and this is not for anyone except who fights to make worship for Allah alone and for the Word of Allah to be uppermost."

From Fataawaa Ibn Taymiyyah (27/442).
