Nam akhi ive heard this aswell. I've heard they have nasheeds which include musical instruments which are not allowed. Also im not sure how much segregation there is at this event. This is what I have heard from a fiqh teacher who discussed this event to us and described as a "fitna"

GPU actually was established first then 'Islam'Expo came on the scene so the copycat isn't GPU- though I agree they seem the exact same in many respects though if you were to make mention of that to organisors they claim they are sooooo different, etc.

This is all true na'am, plus a lot more besides- I unfortunately went to the first GPU (not knowing how it was to be) and it was messed up to the max, since then feedback is the same.

Since so many people are saying it is best to stay away, shouldnt we close the thread and not advertise the event

Both events: GPU and IslamExpo are both just not what you call an 'islamic event'....theres so much fitnah!

Music in what they call 'nasheeds' - although IslamExpo did mention in their adverts that there would be music which i was taken aback by!!! Theres ALOT of mixing...no segregation, boys and girls just mix astaghfirullah, screaming, shouting, cheering, flirting naoozubillah...(all this I got from a friend who went to GPU and Islam Expo) - both just a recipe for FITNAH!

It really shocks me that they have stooped so low to become this - is this what you call uniting the ummah..we could do much better!

What has it come to?!!

bro its going to be advertised anyway-more successfully than on a forum.
the important thing is, this thread stays alive so people can say WHY its best to stay away from it, and what goes on there, and with that inshAllah people reading will have a reason for not going. instead of blaming people of being over-religious as so many people like doing these days.

Nam akhi your right. It seems to be advertised everywhere. Inshallaah we will all be guided onto the straight path and proclaim the truth and forbid the evil.

Assalaam Alaikum
Just reading through this forum and realised how ignorant some people can be, GPU does unite the Ummah, however all these claims of Fitnah are exactly what the Ummah is these days, GPU does not create the Fitnah, rather the Muslims who go to the GPU event create the fitnah, all of you who are intending to stay away from the GPU event should actually go and make their point at the actual event, the sisters should try their best to control the other sisters who start screaming whilst the brothers should help other brothers to avoid creating fitnah, we should go up to the organisers of the event during the actual event and complain to them directly, there is no point sitting at home complaining about the fitnah, a true Muslim would go there and do something about it

Assalam alykum,

I tend to agree with soyef. The event is what you make of it.

The positives include the exhibits and gallaries for their educational value. The souk brings many products into one place. Though the nasheed concert was a bit of a let down cause of the screaming and shouting regardless of your opinion on musical instruments.

I've been to both GPU07 and IslamExpo08. I think IslamExpo is a mini GPU.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Allaah knows best

erm..??? helooooo .......
segregration is Z-E-R-O its like a big mixed up soup of muslims n its ridiculous cos theyr trying to maintain an islamic event and yet there missing the point completey!!!

Let's be rational about this! I don't know why Islamic events always under scrutiny for not having a strict segregated policy when most people complaining goto unis, cinemas, mixed weddings and all that, it doesn't justify anything, but look.. an event of such magnitude just cannot be segregated. So if you think there is some good in the event and like to take your family than go, if you don't want to than stay at home and watch it on tv and if you don't have tv than watch it online and if you can't do that than do something else.

Assalaamu Alaykum
Again segregation = 0
Due to the fact that this is an ISLAMIC event, the organisers dont have to tell you to sit away from the opposite sex, as a Muslim we should already know not to sit next to the opposite sex. Anyway the reason for no segregation is because its supposed to be an event for the family. I went to all GPU's with my sisters and i realy dont know how i would have coped if i was not allowed to sit with them. As i said before its the Muslims nowadays that make the fitnah in an event and then blame the organisers e.g Boy caught sitting next to a girl and chatting to her aswell, what would he say "its not my fault that im sitting with her, its the organisers fault, they didnt seperate us"

I saw a video on youtube by Ummahfilms called the art of complaining and Baba Ali is sooooo right, We are all so quick to complain about something but we never do anything about it.

Anybody who curses GPU or the organisers should know that prophet Muhammad (saw) said " every deed is judged upon its intention" and the intention of GPU is to unite the Muslim Ummah, dont see anything wrong there, do u?
