BUMP start.......... you mean jump start?
You need to tell this bush mechanic to get out his volt meter and sell what the reading is in the battery, and it could simply means that your battery is falt anf just needs a new battery, if it isn’t the battery then it could be an electrical fault In the car (ie. Windows, CD player, air condition) which is draining the battery
The best what to find out what the problem is and it’s difficult for anyone online to diagnosed a car fault without getting to look at it, is if you are a member of the AA or RAC then I would juts call them out and they would tell you what’s wrong with the car.
No deffo bump starting it, the mechanics checked the battery, was hoping someone could suggest something that was rare but fixable
OK first I have to ask, is the problem intermittent ie does it start sometimes and other times not? If this is the case and the battery is fine then I would suspect that the starter solenoid is going or there is a loose connection on the starter.
If it cranks but won't fire up it could be the ignition switch on the steering column. I had an old truck that used to be like this. It ran like a champ if you bump started it but when you tried starting it with the key, the voltage was too low to make it across the switch to the engine.
:jkk: it's intermittent so its either the solenoid's done one or loose connection on the starter that we need to get checked.. :jkk:
Bump start...there is no such thing...?
Its jump-start.

Some places will do a free battery and starter check. Have a look around
Wow i'm a girl & i know but people probably just don't see or have to do it often. Jump start is when you use battery power from another vehicle to jump the car in to action, bump start is when u physically have to push the car ideally downhill and try starting it.

most likely it's just a loose connection or possibly a bad ground on the starter motor

Its not bump start - its actually called "push starting" a car.
No wonder no one knew what it meant. lol
