Nearly everyday when I pray at work, people are on the phone throughout as in on personal calls as my manager leaves the room when I need to pray as he is a man and they talk amongst themselves and it is so annoying!!!

I have told them nicely and politely several times and they still have whole conversations while I am praying.

:help:

Does anyone have an article, fatwa something, anything 'concrete' to highlight how disrespectful this is and how sinful to distract others from their ibadah? As I do not know how many more possible ways I can tell them how much they distract me from my salah and Alhumdulillah it is summer so only pray Zuhr at work but I cannot be doing this for 3-4 prayers a day in a couple of months when the time changes once again :(

:wswrwb: are they muslims u work with ukhti ? if they are then maybe invite them to pray with u, if not then they wont understand and theyre not going to respect or accept any fatawa. and maybe its better to go to a quiet place like the fire escape or somewhere else to pray Allahu alam.

Yes they all are. Some too pray but they finish before me and as soon as they do they start talking and they are the sort of people whereby they do respect the deen and fatwa etc. but they stay quiet for a bit and then they start again.

I used to pray near the fire escape but a piegon got in and made a mess everywhere so it is not exactly a place which is clean anymore.

If there isnt anywhere else to pray, then I guess just keep at it...ignore them, they will keep on doing it, or you can talk to your manager and tell him to talk to them

There are other offices. Before their used to be empty rooms but then some new companies moved in and I lost my space. I don't want to do the whole manager thing coz we all get on well enough not to do that but I just don't get why you could talk when someone is praying :S

Pray out loud? :p

Good plan! :D

:salams,

I'm sure we're just being 'funny' about it, not seriously suggesting that sis Nazia will pray loudly henceforth ?

I don't agree with that statement. I think, if we expect them to not understand then they won't. When I'm at work or at school and I go off to pray, everyone shuts up without me ever asking them too. They are always respectful.

How are you towards them? Do you respect their space, are you nice to them? Sometimes, when we are rude (sometimes when we don't even notice) people reflect on that and act out towards us. If you asked them politely to quiet down and they refuse, find out why.

If that fails, find someplace else to pray.

Like I said its happened to me a lot, where other ppl dnt respectmy privacy knowing full well that I am praying. Of course I respect there privacy...guess its best to talk to them, or say ALLAHU AKBAR loud im sure they would get the message lol

Dont you have any other room to pray in?

Yes, i was going to ask this.

If not, just try to ignore them.

I don't pray, but i have seen people pray - some get distracted by noise easily...some are so into it, they don't notice anything, just their prayer. If you can't concentrate with the noise makke up for it later..I'm sure this is allowed.

I think you are lucky enough to be in a workplace where your praying is allowered...i read on another thread about a guy who's boss was awful to him about him praying.

I'm not sure how helpful signs will be because even in a prayer room designed for prayer, with signs all over the place about remaining silent whilst other are praying etc etc people STILL don't obey them, they might read them yes, and someone else may tell them, they're quiet for a while and then continue

Sorry, this rant may not have helped you at all but just saying that people do it, and no matter how many times you remind them they still do it. I think someone mentioned giving them something about the adab of observing silence, if you find something good on that it should be beneficial inshaAllah.

Asaalam,

I pray at my work in the trainig room we have of course when its empty, or in the store room.

Usually if the training room is busy I go to Store room, if someone is there then I wait.
People make noises I don’t ask them to stop boz they are not muslim and if I ask them they don’t care.

So sister just pray your Salat and don’t worry about others.

Jazakallah

It's highly unlikely that I was going to do that anyway.

I do not have a reason to be rude to them so no and we all get on very well but it is the one thing they just can't seem to help it.

To be honest, I didn't actually realise we HAD to be quiet when someone is praying, I mean you don't shout or anything but I've never known Muslims who felt they had to completely stop talking because someone was praying.
