Asalaamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatahu,
I was thinking about this the other day, i bumped into one of my old friends, she invited me inside her house and i didn't want to be rude and refuse so i went inside, however she was a non-muslim, she offered me a drink, again i didnt want to be rude so i had a little bit, i wanted to find out if it is permissible to eat/drink out of the dish/cutlery of a non muslim? Iver heard different things about christians and jews but im not sure, also my friend was not ahlul kitaab, she was sikh, so anyone have any information, ahadeeth???
JazakAllah Khairun.

As long as you don't eat PORK or Drink alcohol, why would eating a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich at your friends house be wrong?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there incidents in which the Prophet (saw) ate at the homes of Kufaar. I'm particularly thinking about the incident in which a Kafir woman attempted to poison him (saw) because he'd killed her father in battle. One of the Muslims with him ate the food and died instantly whereas the Prophet (saw) took one bite and spat it out, realising that something was wrong with the food and later forgave her.
As LastFriday said, I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you're not served haraam food. I'm a little cautious about eating at the home of a non Muslim for example if they serve pastry because some pastries are made with lard and stuff like that but other than that, I would drink tea or eat the food if I know the person has enough sense to not serve something haraam. One of my mum's friends is Hindu and doesn't drink so I've eaten at her house sometimes (and even the meat she cooks is from the halal shop). Another thing I remember is when I went to a Muslimah's house and she served meat which she bought from Tesco (ie not from the halal or kosher section:S). I refused to eat it when I found out and she said "Big sheikh on TV said it's okay":S

Unless you think they have questionable hygiene and don't wash their plates...

Personally I would not eat in a sikh's house as they do eat meat and even though they say that the dishes are cleand and washed I still wouldn't. They might use the same sponge to clean all the dishes.
My parents are non-muslim and they are gujarati they do not eat meat, eggs, onion, garlic etc, but I would eat at my mums house coz they are vegetarians.

There could be a problem with cross-contamination of vessels (i.e. bowls, glasses etc) but i think you should speak to a proper 'aalim about this - I am also looking for an answer to this question.

I imagine that most people who are close enough to invite you to their home for a meal would be considerate enough to serve only things you can eat.
My own friends are always careful to make sure that they have stuff for me (and tell me what's in everything) because of some of my own dietary restrictions (both personal and religiously based).

I'm sure they wash their cutlery in SOAP before giving it to you o.O
