My fav subjects aren't core.. my fav has to be sociology or Languages

Islamic studies: Arabic, usul al hadith and usual al fiqh and tasfir... all of it :love: such a beautiful deen full on hikmah we have tabrakallah!

If I had to pick, it would be English. But I’m more into Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Geography.…Social Studies, I guess. Science is okay (mainly biology). Math is dumb. English sucks. Well not sucks, I just don't like it. I hate having deadlines while reading and I absolutely despise reading fiction books.. only fiction book I ever read on my own was the Bible. I am terrible at writing poetry - so yea, English is not my cup of tea.

Science and Math is too hard of a decision.. I adore both of them.. but I'd say science...because Biology rocks my socks.

standards are slipping, and can you blame the kids? It's all about this governments trivialisation of education. And you can see it especially well in A-levels, subjects like 'general studies', 'critical studies', 'psychology' and 'sociology' get precedence over English, Maths and the Sciences.

Soon we'll have an army of highly skilled people, able to speak at length on mental conditions, discuss (but not fix) the ills of society, able to regurgitate the winners of the last 10 eurocups, but unable to read, write or count :rolleyes:

Exactly! What they should actually is completely scrap all those useless subjects, bring back the academic and classical subjects. The rest can all be picked up through those. Much more useful.

Instead, they've just hashed up the syllabi, Maths and Further Maths are now a complete joke, there's nothing left in Physics anymore (you don't even have to know any Maths to do it) and well, let's forget the other two, they're not important :p

Universities are doing well though, all the Russell Group universities are practically ignoring all these 'filler' subjects with the consequence that otherwise bright kids are losing out on university places, simply because a silly teacher decided that they'd rather make them do 'general studies'.

So, in conclusion, let's kick Brown through the turnstile, won't make a jot of difference but it'll make us all feel a little happier until the next little runt decides to assert his 'creativity' and 'innovativity' and all those other buzz words.

On the contrary, English Lit at college furthered my love of it :inlove:

The core subjects are already distinct from the other subjects (just by being called core subjects), there just isn't as much emphasis put on their importance as there used to be. They have just sort of faded onto the same level as the other subjects and instead of it being a priority to pass core subjects it is now just a matter of scraping by. You're fine if you pass ANY subjects nowadays, as long as you've passed SOMEthing. :smack:

English is dead boring ... most of their Literature is also Utter Trash, although I like Old English ...
