View Full Version : Would You Marry a Taxi Driver?
So err yeah this is a serious question. Would you marry a cabbie?
I mean no one likes them right? And I personally believe they should be quarantined or something or surgically detached from the premier accident management companies they have on quick dial.
Would you marry a taxi driver?
I’m really sorry if I’ve adhered to every clichéd stereotype of that section of society that chooses to damage the moral fibre we attempt to uphold in our communities, but crap happens :(
Me personally, Id marry Jigsaw from saw 1, 2, 3 and 4 but bismillah, never a cabbie.

nah jk
Nothing wrong with cabbies.
If you're talking about the loud mouth, beer in right hand steering with the left, stubble filled faces stinky cabbies that are a nuisance and cant slow down on the bumps properly, then i see what you mean.
If you're talking about a Muslim/Muslimah who makes his/her living by driving people around (in fact a Muslimah only cab driving service aint a bad idea...). then what on earth is wrong with marrying them???
Did u get a proposal from a cab driver or something?
They drive cabs.
People drive buses, trains, or other people mad! :p

Twice I have encountered rishte from taxi drivers/min cab drivers. At the time I did not know of their professions until they spoke to me and told me.
Both guys were insecure; backward; came from dysfunctional families; had major issues and were insecure with my successful educational and financial background.
I believe that Allah granted me those things so why should I be made to feel bad - cos thats what these guys tried to do. Make ME feel bad that I had made a successful life.
I guess they want wives who are not only financially dependent on them but also so weak that they are emotionally dependent on them!

I came up with an idea and told this cabbie I knew who also happened to own a taxi rank. Train and employ a female to become a cabbie and her job would be to pick up sisters only, as most of them would be weary about jumping into male driver's car (all cabbies are weirdos). He said it wouldn't work and that was the end of that.

perhaps it was yourself that was insecure because you realised that your measure of success was your education or wealth whilst that meant nothing to them so put you in their eyes as unscusseful?

sisters might feel uncomfy driving round by themselves in evening picking people up though. like they are supposed to go pick up another lady, but what's to stop a guy phoning and saying can u send ur female driver to come pick up my wife, but then guy will get in car? might b dangerous :s (or mayb i am just paranoid..)

Well, I suggested that 'she' would work days only. I have a little experience in the taxi business. Some sisters used to ring up for a car and request a Muslim driver pick them up because a lot of (other) drivers tend to get into chit-chat mode which causes some uneasiness. The idea was that at least a Muslim would behave properly.
Also, the way I envisaged it was that the service would not be advertised. Rather, it would get round by word of mouth. A lot of sisters get cabs for shopping, doctors appointment, school run etc... and they only get a cab out of necessity. With a female driver, it wouldn't be a problem.
As for some nutter trying to get into the car, then alhamdulillaah for central locking. Even normal cabbies have a problem with this when some drunk dude tries to stagger into the car. It's all about keeping the doors locked and your foot on the gas...
So err yeah this is a serious question. Would you marry a cabbie?

also they might get some increased business bc alot of sisters wont take a taxi by themselves even if they need to go somewhere will just try to use bus etc bc nearly always the driver will b a man so we avoid it.

Subhan'Allah all you had to say was "my husband is a taxi driver and I find your post rather insulting. Please don't generalise about taxi drivers based upon your experiences with one or two individuals."
Regrettably, what started out as earnest, if rather harsh naseeha quickly degenerated into a full-blown character assassination, questioning the sisters imaan and casting aspersions on her ethics, demeanour and level of maturity.
Even if you found her post insulting, it doesn't give you carte blanche to be insulting yourself, free from any repercussions. Let us not forget that Allah ta'ala sees and hears all we type and say and we may be questioned about thoe words on the day of judgement (that is a reminder to myself, before anyone else insha'Allah).

Halal Earning counts, so be what the job, be it halal!
Our beloved prophet(saw) in his childhood herd sheep and camels in scorching humid days under boiling sun. Worked as an business employee in youth times for Khadija (ra) at contract basis. He used to sew his own shoe although he(saw) is the best man created ever. He was called Al ameen for his unique trustworthiness and he won the impression of that times most qualified, intelligent, rich business women Ummatul Muminin Khadija(ra).
It's the deen character in a person we are to look for while marrying. That's what takes us to win-win situation.
Excluding a particular job doing person from criteria of choice will never bring the ultimate peace and tranquil life but a life of success in both of the world is guaranteed by following what Allah and his Messenger(Saw) revealed for us.
Imagine nobody can assure of the source of earning, cause:
'' No man knows what they'll earn tomorrow and no man knows in which land they'll die (TMQ:24)
So, Why exclude a halal( legal) way of earning?
Are we to abandon what's permitted for us just cause of some random event and make our chances narrower in times of need? Is that rational for the man of understanding? Man those who think?
May Allah guide us and grant us the righteous and successful happy life!
May Allah and all of you forgive if I have offended anyone.

If the earning is HALAAAL then nothing wrong in it but when you are considering for a marriage then think about the religious prospective.
Abu Said related that the Prophet said: The truthful and trustworthy businessman will be in the company of Prophets, saints and martyrs on the Day of Judgment. (Darimi, Tirmidhi)
An American dream: an Arab taxi driver overcomes massive hurdles to realise his dream of converting a church into a mosque. (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2742/is_374/ai_n24998926)
