According to nearly all the historians Asma (ra), the elder sister of Ayesha (ra) was ten years older than Ayesha (ra). In Taqri'bu'l-tehzi'b as well as Al-bidayah wa'l-nihayah that Asma (ra) died in 73 hijrah when she was 100 years old. Now, obviously if Asma (ra) was 100 years old in 73 hijrah she should have been 27 or 28 years old at the time of hijrah. If Asma (ra) was 27 or 28 years old at the time of hijrah, Ayesha (ra) should have been 17 or 18 years old at that time. Thus, Ayesha (ra), if she got married in 1 AH (after hijrah) or 2 AH, was between 18 to 20 years old at the time of her marriage.
Whats up ? Can some one tell me the truth to Ayesha`s age?

I mean this as a serious question: Does it matter?
We know Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, that is enough for us :inlove:

Why does it matter?

Nah its good to know her age so you can then discuss her attributes with sisters around the same age!
Like e.g. when we know of the age Ali (RA) accepted Islam he was only like, ten! Which is amazing.
When its at a range of 6 to 20 it becomes important!

There is no minimum age, it varies from girl to girl, when she becomes baligh and starts her menses then she can get married islamically.

Salaam Brother
I did read somewhere (I gotta find the source) where it states that a child must be "aware" of herself. A child can still start her menses and be baligh (sane?) but not in a position to marry due to her own mentality of child-like thinking.
Sorry I am not explaining this very well.
For example, I recall some of my friends at 8/9 years old reaching puberty but behaved very much as children. This does NOT mean that they are ready for marriage or that it is Islamically ok to marry just because they have reached puberty.
So before anyone starts thinking its okay for children to be married at such a tender age, we need to look at the mental age/experience/i.q etc etc that Aisha's (RA) marriage took place and its validity.
I'm sure there are members on this site who know what I am talking about and can explain the validity of such marriages in the context of "mental" age and awareness.

Bismillah,
She was 16, married at 19. Bukhari did not put 1 before his numbers. You have to do a lot of reading before you come to any conclusions.

Uh... ok well I won't argue about her age, only point it that doesn't it seem really odd that a 19 yr old would be still playing with dolls? o.O

The West has is replete with Sex Shops which sell inflatable dolls. And the 'men' who purchase them aren't exactly 'playing' with them either.
I'd rather see a 19 year old playing with dolls thank you very much. I can guess what you think is more 'normal' however.

I never knew this :|.. Brother is this really true? What evidence do you have that indicates Bukhari did in fact miss out a one?

what proof do you have of this??? i remember reading hadiths that Aisha (rad) was playing with dolls/toys. and the scholars unanimously say that she was married at age of 6, with few people coming up with their own theories about older age
