depending on if it is normal eczema or an other type. one of my family members tried this one, and she is a lot better. try eating a tea spoon of rocket( the seeds for rocket salad) seeds.it is very important for her to stay away from dust etc and she should ensure she wears cotton clothing as much as she possibly can, not silky ones. same applies for her bedding, should be 100% cotton.

I pray that she is alleviated of her sufferings.

I had a case of eczema a few months ago, I bought head & shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo and used it as a body wash on the affected skin. There is something in it that works to clear eczema up.

The thing is with eczema....it never goes away.

When i was like 15/16 i had it real bad all over my body and the doc gave me some steroid tablets AND IT worked wonders. All my eczema was gone nd my skin started going my natural fair colour. But the course of tablets finished and it slowly started appearing again :(

But i think Diet is important when it comes to Eczema, no dairy products, eggs, cheese nd types of meat!

I think Chicken is ok to eat.

tell her to ask her doc for unguentum mearc (aka unguentum m) cream - its a very good emollient (steroid free) and also forms a protective barrier on the skin (unlike conventional emollients) -- I find that it works better than steroid cream.

Also she should check with her dermatologist whether she should be doing tayammun instead of wudu because some forms of eczema are made worse by frequent washing even with plain water. If this is her type of eczema she should also avoid contact with anything dirty if possible to minimise the amount of times she has to wash her hands, and she should use household gloves when doing washing up etc.

She can get products for washing with designed for eczema sufferers, in addition to using these, the water she washes with should be as close to body temperature as possible, same with bathing and showering.

Avoid putting unnecessary products on the skin, anything that foams (e.g. almost every soap, shower gel, shampoo etc on the market) and anything alkaline strips the skins protective barrier, which is already weakened in eczema sufferers. So its very important to choose products that are designed for eczema sufferers (E45 do a good range) - also be very careful with perfume and make up. Cotton clothes are best for eczema as cotton allows sweat to evaporate easily (a build up of sweat can exacerbate it) Some washing powders and fabric conditioners can irritate it too, so its best to use very gentle non bios without fabric conditioner.

Sometimes eczema is worsened by certain foods, it may be helpful to keep a diary of what she eats and how bad her skin is to see if for example she gets flare ups after eating certain foods.

I used to swear by Evening Primrose Moisturising cream. Kept my Eczema managable. I think you can get it from most Health Food shops, i used to get it from Holland and Barret.

this is the trouble with steroids........ they relieve the symptoms but unless measures are taken to protect the skins barrier and allow it to build up again, the eczema will return. Steroid treament for eczema should be in combination with treating the skin barrier. Ung mearc cream is good as it provides a barrier whilst the skins natural barrier builds up again. In addition its essential to avoid anything that can strip the skins natural barrier. Its scary how few eczema patients are advised about this. :S

A good natural way to help with eczema and certain other skin conditions is UV therapy - as in, either spending time outside in the sun or in a tanning bed and allowing the affected areas to be exposed to UVA/UVB rays. As she is a sister, I'd say go use a tanning bed because she can have privacy that way and not compromise modesty.

And before anyone says it, yes there is a risk for skin cancer if you do it long-term, but with steroids you also have risks and if she wants to stop the steroids then I'd try it.

Below is what a friend of mine on another forum recommended for my son who has occasional outbreaks of eczema.

hey, my 6 year old son used to have ezcema BAD. I switched his soap to JASON's SATIN SHOWER BODY WASH, it severly limited his outbreaks...just a thought. I sell A TON of it at my store also.

Anti histamines can work wonders for some people.

hmm ive also got eczema had it all my life. its been on and off and ive had it since my early teens and still do.... best thing is to see a homopathic as mine was really bad a few years ago and Allhamdulillah it has worked but its still there...

I try these few creams and make sure u keep the affected part moisturised.. i use Neem moisturising cream, Neem all purpose oil, and one in particual escp made for ezcema, its called medihoney moisturising cream suitable for eczema and other skin allergies.

but i would suggest drink at least 1.5L of water a day and this will keep ur inside cool and some reasons why ppl suffer from eczema because the heat inside their bdoy is really hot so it affcts tha outter skin.... u need to keep tht down with plenty of water and keep away from dust...

Please use Shea Butter - this works wonders on Eczema.

Try L'Occitane Shea Butter as its very pure compared with other brands. Its rather expensive but if you cant afford it, Im sure there are other shea butters out there made by other companies.

I used to have such bad eczema. Seriously my skin would split and I would bleed for ages. However now it's almost normal. I suggest reducing contact with water and just have a brief warm shower and rubbing on emolients ever half hour. Trust me it works, I use Diprobase which can be bought in a pharmacists and also have an allergy test done to see which foods trigger the problem. I also had inflamed itchy skin however if you simply rub on emolient creams very often through out the day it really does stop it. With creams like Diprobase they simply rehydrate the skin and thus you can use as much as you like.

This is good advice from Dhakiyya, I have also used this cream, it's only effective if rubbed on very frequently. From my experiance I remember it being rather thick.

Also buy Oilatum, it's an oil you put in the bath and it softens and rehydrates the skin. More advice I would give is when drying the skin dab rather than rub as dabbing will help keep more moisture on the skin.

I find that in hot conditions the eczema is aggravated and thus it's better to keep in cooler places.

As for the UVB rays treatment, I had it done and I didn't find that it helped.

To all those who have eczema/psoriasis, do not despair. I know the doctors always say there isn’t a cure for this, but do you believe the doctors or our Creator Allah Subhanawata’ala and our beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam?

The doctors may be right in a way that they do not have a cure for it. However, there is a cure. You don’t always have to go to the conventional medicine for cures. The only thing the conventional medicine does is treat your symptoms.

Ever notice how they will give you ointments/creams to put on your skin? Or put you in UVA light boxes? Or give you coal tar baths? Or in the worst case, put you on a low dose Methotrexate (chemo) therapy? Whatever it is, they are always treating the symptoms instead of curing the illness and eliminating it from the root.

I want to tell you a few things which I know work and help treat and cure eczema/psoriasis. Firstly, for those who do not know what psoriasis is, it is in the same family as eczema, but only worse. Do an image search on Google and see what you can find. Not a pleasant sight.

Anyway, there are few things you can do, Insha’Allah. You can do something both externally and internally.

External

It can be painful both physically and mentally to have this disorder. Physically it is painful when it is itching or when it is real dry starts to crack and bleed. Mentally it is painful when you get stares and comments from people making you feel worthless.

To alleviate the pain that is caused from dryness and/or thick plaques formed on the skin, there is something which you can do and is quite helpful.

Here is what you do, Insha’Allah:

Make a mixture of olive oil and peanut oil. Make enough so that it can be applied wherever the affected areas are. If you don’t have peanut oil, then just use the olive oil.

Prior going to sleep, apply the oil generously everywhere you have eczema and psoriasis. This may be a bit messy. You may want to remove your clothes especially if it is all over your body.

Once the oil has been applied, wrap yourself in a clear plastic wrap (the wrap you use to cover food when storing it). This may be uncomfortable and seem strange, but it helps. The wrap helps keep the oil penetrate and keep the skin moist. Otherwise it will absorbed by the bed sheets and your clothes. Leave it and go to sleep. Sometimes it may help to have a fan on and towards you. It may get hot.

When you wake up, you will already feel much better. Remove the plastic wrap and shower. Once you shower, apply something like Vaseline on your skin to keep it moist.

Do this every night until you feel better.

Internal

This is quite cheap compared to all the medications you have to buy just to treat your symptoms. MUCH cheaper.

There are three things you can do, Insha’Allah.

Borage and Flaxseed Oil – The one I recommend is by Barlean’s (http://www.vitacost.com/Barleans-Omega-Twin-Organic-Flax-Borage-Oil). Take two tablespoons twice a day. Take it religiously without missing a dose. It is really important to take this.

Honey and Cinnamon – Take one tablespoon (½ honey and ½ cinnamon) of this twice a day. Do not miss this either. Take it religiously.

Change your diet. Do not eat any junk and processed foods. Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables. If possible, eat more of fish and chicken and try to cut down/eliminate beef. If you want to meat, stick to goat/lamb. Do this for a while at first just to get the healing process going. Insha’Allah once you’re better, you can become lenient with your diet.

The best part of the borage/flaxseed oils and the honey/cinnamon is that they are all natural – no side effects or harm. It is very cheap, too.

Do not expect to be cleared overnight. Of course, as with everything, it takes time. You should start seeing results within 1-2 weeks.

Remember, doing this in itself will not cure you. It is only a means of helping you. The cure is from Allah and only Allah Subhanawata’ala. Make dua’a and ask Him to cure you and give you sabr. Do everything you can and ask Allah Subhanawata’ala for His help and leave the rest up to him. Allah will never break His Promise.

Last thing before I end this, I’d like to say that I’m not a doctor. I am only relating this to my fellow Muslims so that they can find relief in their lives. It is such a wonderful feeling knowing a Muslim is happy and living comfortably. The above mentioned has worked for many people. It is always worth a try, isn’t it?

Don’t let this control you. Instead, you control it.

May Allah give us complete cure and sabr. Ameen

My son has eczema. We found that pineapple juice made it worse. Diprobase cream really has helped. It's very light and easily absorbed. Dermol was sticky and made him scratch even more.

Yes, I've heard of psoriasis. There's a cream called Aloe & Marigold from a brand called KuK Organics. Just google it. It's really good for eczema AND it's organic.

First she must stop using all steroid creams. They will only surpress the eczema and not get rid of it.

Next make changes to small things. Use Fairy powder in her laundry (it is the mildest commercial washing powder). IF she can afford it, use from the Ecover range...especially the fabric softner.

Make sure all bedding and clothing touching the affected area is 100% cotton. Wash them regularly to get rid of flaky/ dry skin.

Now she must address her diet. Tell her to keep a food diary for 2 weeks. Note down all food she eats and what days her eczema flares up the most. From this you can begin to get a rough idea of any foods that may be causing it to flare up.

With regards to the affected area, do not use soap on this area at all (when washing up, wear gloves everytime, when bathing do not use soap). Try to use plain water where possible and minimise washing the area at all, unless necessary.

ALWAYS always moisturise the area..up to 10 times a day if you have to. Do not wait for it to get dry and cracked to apply something. Make it a regular habit to apply a cream.

I would highly recomend she try this cream. It is called Hope's Relief. It is made entirely of natural products, and worked wonders for our daughter, who had severe eczema as a baby (all over her entire body). This cream is based on homeopathic remedies, so like any homeopathic remedy, it wil not supress the eczema but instead it will cause it to 'come out' so as to rid the body of it. When you apply this cream, after a few dasy the eczema can seem worse because the body is bringing it all to the skin. After a few days it begins to subside. You only use the cream as long as the eczema symptoms are there. After the eczema as gone, you continue to use for a few more weeks and then you stop use altogether.

Alternatvely you can find a local registered homeopath and they will give you similar hoeopathic remedies to try in the form of pills under the tongue. Remember, with homeopathic medicine, it will either have an affect or it will have no effect. So it is a very safe and natural route to try.

Gotu Kola increases collagen production and strengthens connective tissue.
Aloe Vera has anti-biotic, cooling, soothing and moisturizing properties.
Manuka Honey has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties. 100% pure from New Zealand and contains the UMF Unique Manuka Factor that is the most potent.

If she has eczema/dry skin in the head area, again Hope's do the shampoo version as well, which I must admit is brilliant for anyone's hair, let alone a person with a dry scalp. We used this on our daughters head a couple of times before the eczema went...and has not come back on her head since mashaallah.

I know these products may seem quite pricey, but that is because the concentration of the ingredients is very strong in a small amount so as to have an immediate or quick effect.
