programme was not worth watching.

Well at first it was okay, just showing all these gorgeous accessories and abayas. you couldnt really wear them out though...
Then i was shocked to find out about the bluetooth dating in malls in dubai!
And then, it gave a clip for next weeks show. In cairo, egypt..my country lol...and just in the lives of muslimahs and about how hijab is a fashion and it gave this clip of a programming with a women talking about masturbating on egypt tv or something...!!! I dunno...

the presenter was saying if this chewy thing was brought to US/england it wud be a class A drug! :O

I dont know. I didnt see that one.
From what ive seen this is certainly not the way most women 'behind the veil' behave!
I just watched one of those clips and it looks like a pointless program masquerading as a controversial one. :hidban: <--- missing the bling

ye it kinda portrays the western parts of these muslims countries only.
i was shocked to see the way men reacted when the presenter went into the market area. they were kinda taking the mic outa her for going ther but at the same time were being pervy...a brother cuda just gone up to her and sed look this aint on, u shudnt be here, instead they were all wolf-whistling and making rude remarks.
she cried wen she got back in the car...boohoo-who askd u to go to the market in the firs place!

It's khat...a vile leafy drug that is supposedly 'halal'.
I wouldn't say it's a class A drug...more like a B or C. Believe it or not, it's pretty wide-spread in the UK but it's for some reason not considered at all.

" the shop of the moment is sweeties, run by chitra a hindu woman who is making a fortune out of muslim womens fashion.."

Basically, yes.
It's a thing spread amongst Somalis as well, and you'd be shocked at the number of 'knowledgeable Sheikhs' that permit it.

I did'nt actually see the program so i don't know what was said, its not about dancing and getting high, when chewing Gat it should be in a calm and friendly atmosphere, it makes you think more and makes you more aware i mean forget about sleeping that night cause it makes you sleeplesss. You should try it

It also happens to be haraam. It may not make you high the same way pot might but it does give people a 'buzz' of some sort.
Plz don't go recommending the haraam.

How is it haram? Just because people abuse it doesn't render it haram. It may become haram for those who spend most of their income on it whilst their kids are hungry. There are plenty of people who use it responsibly.
Call it selfish but am actually happy this program has been made. I can just show it to my friend who keeps banging about moving to a muslim country and is just oblivious to all those things in that program.

Our sisters in the Emirates are certainly blessed.
One sister has an F430! Wow! I'm impressed! Theres a clip of it somewheree.
Didnt like watching the programme. its just portraying to the world that middle eastern women have taken a more 'western' style approach in life. its sad! :(

Given that 75% of these same Arabian Gulf women descend on London's high streets and designer boutiques to shop every summer, I'm kinda surprised that you guys in the UK are going
A lot of women really do cover "because everyone else does it" and they forget the whole point of doing so. Hence the 'pimped up' abayas, and even the Blutooth flirting.
Did you really expect BBC to offer "fair and balanced" reportage about Muslim women? Obviously they will pick out all the rotten apples for all the world to laugh at.
Do I smell envy? How do you know how you would behave if Allah(swt) blessed you with similar resources?
For every spoiled babe they show, there are 10 women who pray regularly, know more du'as than you do, recite Surah Al Kahf every Friday, and would rather pray Tarawih in the Haram Shareef in Makkah than attend a pop concert. Oh, and carry a designer handbag. Because Allah (swt) never told us to not enjoy the dunya, just to remember the source of our wealth and be continually in gratitude and remembrance of Allah (swt).

What makes you say its Haram?????
Because it can be intoxicating and it is harmful to the body; not to mention it's little addictive. It's banned in a number of European countries, Canada and the US for that simple reason. These are countries that don't ban cigars which is universally accepted as a killer; logic tells you that they must have found effects of khat to be much worse. Now, we know the majority if not all scholars consider smoking haraam, what do you reckon their position on something even more harmful with intoxicating effects is going to be?
It's also banned in Saudi Arabia for similar reasons.

Don't understand why people are so surprised about these things. You'll probably also have shock to know same sex r'ships aren't as rare as we think in Muslim countries either.

I have yet to see a fatawa that says khat is haraam for all. And why should there be one when khat is used responsibly, like in the old days, has none of the problems associated with it today.
Just to be clear, am in favour of banning khat anyway because of its role in social breakdown. But banning something doesn't make it haraam, just like NOT baning Alcohol will make it halal. Some argue that ban in those countries can be put down to racism or lack of understanding. There are good reasons why it's not banned in the UK and if you have time you can read (it's not long) the ADVISORY COUNCIL ON THE MISUSE OF DRUGS report (http://drugs.homeoffice.gov.uk/publication-search/acmd/khat-report-2005/Khat_Report_.pdf)which was submitted to the Home Office.
My point is science has to prove that khat intoxicates (i.e. you loose your senses, you don't know right from wrong) before we can label something haram for all.
anyway back to the program; for a program to be commisioned and funded it has to be controversial or out of the ordinary to ensure high viewership. It will only further confuse those who are geniunely interested in islam but don't understand the point of hijab after watching this program.

Ebony, it's only done in spirit of experimentation and due to the high level of segregation. Once people are married, usually by 26 for guys, younger for girls, they stop and mature into responsible husbands and wives, become more serious about their religious duties, family responsibilities, al hamdulillah. As I said, for each rotten apple the western media finds, there will always be ten people who are living clean and quiet Muslim lifestyles. :D

this program glamorusies the abaayah n portrays it as a fashion item urgh it makes me sikkk:(
I watched both 'Yemen' and 'Dubai' coverage.
I'd just like to say its a poor reflection on life in yemen...they are obviously not very religious at all (her and her family...why in the world would a sis unclover infront of the camera's...that baffled me!) I havent come across one sis in yemen who would unclover infront of a camera..im guessin these lot did cus they thought 'pah, its not going to be aired in yemen! lol'. Thursday nights lol...qat sessions are every night, but more special on thursday cus friday is a public holiday in yemen. It doesnt involve dancing and getting 'high' all the time...just when there is an occasion. Students chew qat cus they say its good for revision time, can concentrate for longer hours..no sleep!. When men chew...they all talk like they are running the country...sometimes the world! they just talk politics!!! lol. Amani going out to the qat sooq/market, bad move lol..where did she think she was? UK? them markets are not a place for women to be..ALONE!
About Dubai...wasnt surprised about the bluetooth dating, read about that ages ago...in saudi..why it is/was banned there. Amani in Yemen was like up there...coming from a wealthy family, maids and driver..she was sooo the opposite in Dubai..they kinda looked down on her and her 'yemeni' plain abaya. Lol at the comment she made about primark and mataland!!!rofl!
This week in Cairo.
