Hamdulillah, I have nice teeth, and I can't help but notice other people's teeth...my bad.

is it just me, or do other people do this?

If a potential suitor has teeth which aren't very nice, is that a put off for some? they're not dirty, they look polished but just a tad crooked. So when he smiles the crookedness is visible, am I being too critical?

I think that is a tad shallow.

No offence.

Just my 2 rupees.

:0: lol are u a dentist ? ( u dont have to answer that ) well personally i think crooked teeth are beautiful and unique, in fact i find things that are not so called "perfect" to be more intriguing , theyre much more interesting than the "norm" like when u see those so called "hollywood smiles" where their teeth are whiter than the whites of their eyes..and so perfectly straight, they just look like they have a mouth full of false teeth to me..would i turn someone down because of their teeth ..certainly not.

marry a person for their belief in Allah not their teeth

well its ur right to reject someone if ur not attracted to them, so if it bothers u soo much dnt marry them?
altho bear it in mind this is not THE most important thing.

I would refer you to my profile but my teeth are not there right now .

Crooked teeth does not have to equal ugly/unattractive.

sometimes it can seem unattractive but not everyone can afford braces because they can be quite pricey. a person can however, still look good with a closed smile :)

if they are a good person then hopefully the inner goodness should shine out and the teeth aren't so noticeable anymore.

my teeth arent that great either - only noticeable from the left :( but alhamdulillah they better than others i have seen so i would feel pretty bad to be rejected over something as petty as teeth.

if after marriage it bothers you, invest in some braces then :)

That is not a sufficiently enough reason to dismiss them ...

Unless of course they have dirty teeth ...

I know exactly what you mean.

I have a well looked after set of teeth.
Whenever i was 'assessing potentials' i would check for the quality of their teeth.

I dont think it is shallow at all. To me, if someone has good teeth it shows that they look after their oral hygiene...which is essential considering you wouldnt want snog a dog's breath of a mouth!

I'm not a dentist..No.

I find it interesting that there are people here who find crooked teeth unique and beautiful. Wish I could share the same sentiments... but I don't.

He is a very nice person, maybe I am being a little harsh.

I have an idea, anyone know of any good dentists in London? :D

:salams

if they're full of plaque and calculus so thick that u could probably make some kinda cement from it, it would put me off big time

i don't mind crookedness, i agree with asiya sometimes the uniqueness of it all makes it so much nicer, like i think really sharp canines look nice, and when ur teeth next to ur central incisors are a bit crooked... but as long as theyre clean it's all good right?

like by the time u both get old u don't even know how much teeth u gna have left

no dear, theres a difference between a dirty mouth with badly looked after teeth (no flossing, doesnt brush twice, etc.) with someone who does take care of their teeth but they are just crooked. this is how the teeth came in.

you could meet someone with really straight teeth but they could be yellow and that person prolly doesnt even floss or take care of them.

But they might have good teeth but still have the worst breath ever :vomit:

Seriously, fussing over crooked teeth seems beyond fussy from my point of view.

it depends on how bent their teeth were

i think unless their teeth were majorly overlapping and they couldnt close their mouth cos they had too many teeth...i could live with that

but if they had plaque...horribly stained teeth...that'd b a big no-no

which isnt the point of the thread because the thread starter is asking about crooked teeth.

i dont think its a person's fault if they have crooked teeth. they could be very clean for all you know.

to OP:

dont worry about slight crookedness. for a lot of ppl it adds beauty to the smile because of its uniqueness. if u can see plaque and stains and other food particles... well then there's a problem, otherwise don't worry about crookedness :)

regarding crookedness - dentists can fix stuff like this - although I'd advise that to the person themsleves if they didn't like their teeth cause of crookedness - rather than saying "I'll marry you but you gotta get them teeth fixed" - which is a pretty dispicable attitude..... if you want to marry them, marry them, if you don't, don't, if they're otherwise a good marriage partner then marry them cause you won't even notice their teeth after a while anyway. And if they don't like their teeth themselves - inshaAllah they can get them fixed. And to be perfectly honest, everyone has little imperfections in their appearance, say they got their teeth fixed and you noticed some other small imperfection - what woulld you do, tell them to have plastic surgery? No - small imperfections in marriage partners are something that you need to learn to live with cause no-one is perfect! Someones character is much more than that, and its them as a human being that you grow to love in marriage, not their appearance.

dental hygiene is an entirely different matter - to be honest if someone hasn't cleaned their teeth before going to meet a potential marriage partner, I would question how seriously they are considering marriage.

It depends on their means. If they have the ability to keep them clean and don't that is a turn off. Also the culture, people in Islamic countries (especially poor) don't have fluorinated water, fancy toothpastes, and floss and so their teeth sometimes decay more quickly (although many like somalis and other north africans mashallah have beautiful teeth :o) and generally there is not a huge emphasis on having glamorous teeth nor access to dentists for regular cleanups.

Also, crookedness and cleanliness. If they are a little crooked then mashallah and it's just genetics. Cleanliness you usually have some control over (but whiteness is also partly genetic I think ).

Hence why i am saying a bad set of teeth and oral hygiene is something more to consider than a slight crookedness of one teeth or two!!

so long as they maintain fresh breathe then hats the problem? :p

I mean it cant be THAT bad can it? A little gap in the front never hurt anyone... (unless u had a dodgy packet of crisps... ouch)
