Salam brothers and sisters
I have a uni project which might be of interest to several businesses. How do I go around to grabbing their attention? I was told by a friend that if I do it though my superviser, and I do end up making alot of money out of this project, they will take most of the money and leave me with a small percentage. Is this true?

If your supervisor makes a contract with you stipulating this, then sure. Otherwise, he/she cant take squat.
As for approaching businesses, do some networking, search on facebook for people who work for those companies and get to know them etc, try and rub shoulders with seniors and mds etc.
Just ensure this is all done appropriately of course, another way is to send letters to the officers of senior people - most of their details should be on websites - or in financial times, etc.

Jzk. So how can I find the details for senior members of companies in the finanical times?

First off, I haven't a clue how to approach businesses.
Just a word of advice though, be crystal clear on who owns the idea you've developed in your project.
We had a project that involved developing an original idea from conception through to a prototype (on paper), and the professors involved signed a non-disclosure agreement and contract that confirmed that we would be the legal owners of any ideas developed by ourselves on the course.
However, that was an exception. Most ideas developed as part of a full time taught university course belong, in terms of patents, to the university.
Check your university regulations/course contract or you may have legal issues later, not to say that you would be deceiving any CEO you manage to get hold of.
As Joha said, you need to check with your university and I would also advise you speak with an attorney who specializes in IP.
I've licensed several technologies that are jointly owned by the inventor and the university where he/she worked. In fact, I'm working on such a deal right now. This is pretty typical in the US. I don't know about Europe.

Thanks guys. I just spoke to one of my module leaders and she just said that every project is copyright of the university! So what do I do now ? I was thinking of getting a patent over this idea but that takes too long to process. Any suggestions?

If I were to sell this project would the university be entitled to a percentage of the money?
