Salam,
Just in interest, does any use, or has used " Ubuntu" it looks O.K , lol. What you guys think. :o
It must be the second best OS on the planet. It has to be the number one free OS on the planet ;)
I use it at home for 99% of the stuff I do.

I've used Ubuntu, but I like Mandriva more.

i have ubuntu but it takes some time to get used to it, ive been with Windows for donkey years but i experience troublesome moment such as it freezes bit too often with ubuntu but i just stick with Windows, as i have dual boot so i may choose either ubuntu or Windows, windwos mostly
It's a very nice distribution, especially for individual/hobbyist use. Easy to install, even on laptops.
I've always preferred the debian distributions like ubuntu, but I guess that's just personal preference as much as anything.

i'm having trouble installing the all-in-one-sidebar (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1027) in firefox 2 in ubuntu 8.04. everytime i try to install it it says error check console error log, which I do and it mentions something about js script.
I'm also having trouble finding and installing the beautiful looking fonts on this gorgeous murrine gtk theme:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/preview.php?preview=1&id=42755&file1=42755-1.jpg&file2=42755-2.jpg&file3=42755-3.jpg&name=Murrine+GTK2+Cairo+Engine&PHPSESSID=6
also, i cannot reduce the size of the normal icons
I tried this theme but couldn't quite manage to get the look:

It's mainly because of my wife...

Actually I found it more surprising that you have Ubuntu in the office than XP at home.

All the computers and servers in my office run on Linux. Linux is virtually virus and adware free (except for rootkits).

I know. But that's never stopped businesses here from loading 90% of their desktop machines with Windows (servers are a different story).

Nice, could you tell how it's all setup?
networked? central storage? central app server? wireless? central updates? etc etc

All networked. We do have a central data center, with backup servers running in three pop-points around the city. Also an app server. WiFi access is for the Management and Board of Directors only.

Maybe someone should write a WIndows to GNU/Linux migration guide to help people thinking of making the leap.

For example. In Windows the part of a program that makes it run is the .exe command. In GNU/Linux it's .bin.
My Computer in Windows = Home Folder in GNU/Linux.
Anyone care to add?

I want OSX :( Can't afford it... Stingy Apple never puts their price tag down.

I would agree that OS X is more polished and of course you just turn it on and it works. It's like walking into a restaurant on a price fixe and you just sit there while each course is brought to you. And each one is delicious.
Linux, on the other hand, has traditionally been more like buying the groceries and putting the meal together yourself.
Each approach definitely has it advantages. And that's why I use both, but I use OS X probably 20 times as much as I use Ubuntu. Maybe more.
But, you might want to try Ubuntu. It's a lot more now of the restaurant experience than the make it yourself experience. :)
And in terms of transition, it's not that much of an adjustment now from Windows. Certainly there is some learning and work involved in going from Windows XP to Vista. Instead you might want to at least try something else and see how you like it.

Hey, that's totally not fair. You can't post pictures of me on a public forum like this without my consent!
And for the record, I don't wear that red cap any more.
