Assalam Alaikum

I'm having a problem with my beard. I've recently just started to grow it. But the thing is that, it doesn't grow fully- there are patches on my skin that don't have hair and so the beard doesn't fully connect.

I went to Juma' the other day and my friends all commented on how bad it looked on me. Even my mother and sister have made such comments.

So, I was wondering, should I just shave off my beard until eventually the hairless parts of my skin start growing hair?

Look I'm not trying to imitate the kufaar but is it too much to not want to look bad?

wa alaykum salam

maybe it looks okay... could be just shaytan's whispers telling u it looks weird.
its still gonna b better if u keep it, its not right to shave.
maybe there are some things u can put on it to make the other parts grow properly, i dno insha allah some bros can tell u
but if that area did not grow, its not ur responsibility.. ur responsibility is just that u dnt shave the parts that are there

Dont worry about it akhi, you know if you keep your beard it will eventually grow in them areas, if you want to grow hair in them areas sooner just go over it with a shaving stick and rub in johnsons baby oil. The tiny hairs will become thicker, i found out when i did this a long time ago by accident. With my facial hair, my beard and mustache do not meet as there is a gap, Alhamdulilah i think this looks quite nice very oriental lol! I guess everyone has thier own preferences! The main thing is that you are trying to please 'ALLAH Ta'ala' so dont let anyone put you off Insha'ALLAH. I pray that The Lord Almighty makes things easy for you, Ameen...

A lot of beards at the beginning look quite unpleasant to the eye. As they grow longer, those patches start to cover and it'll start looking more consistant. It is only a matter of patience.

Salaam,

What you could do is keep your beard short? Trim it maybe so their all even on all areas, this way the parts that dont have much hair wont be so visible.

If you dont mind me asking how old are you? Otherwise like you say, you could just wait till hair grows all round, though i wouldnt advise you to cut your beard if it has already grown substantially.

You're in the same situation as me. I can only grow the chin part. Therefore, I'm just going to keep the sides trimmed until they grow properly.

Remember that the beard does not make you a better muslim or a cooler muslim. Give it time brother and wait till it's all rounded. Unless your like 25+ then your hair probably won't grow anymore

On Islam Channel yesterday a brother mentioned that some parts of his beard are shorter than the rest so that it doesnt look equal. He asked if it was haram to trim it.

The Sheikh said you are not allowed to trim the beard but you are allowed to "adjust" the hair length to make the beard more presentable.

I think you should try shaving it all off a few times and then let it grow. Ppl do that to babies when the hair on the head grows in patches and removing and growing it back seems to help resolve the problem.

Obviously check with a scholar if its okay to do that. I cant see why he would say no given that your intention is to make the hair grow equally.

lol I find myself in a bind. Back at Juma, when my friends were telling me to shave it off, I told them that I was going to keep the beard because the Prophet (pbuh) did so. If I shave off the beard, I'll look like a hypocrite and if I don't, I'll look funky? Arghh what to do lol?

Look I'm not trying to imitate the kufaar but is it too much to not want to look bad? This happens to most guys...for your first beard you have to go through the long torture of letting those pacthes grow in...i've been told that shaving does not help, but this could just be propaganda.

If you worry about your looks, then I dont think shaving your beard of is anything bad. If it makes you feel bad and you are getting comments from others...

But really this isnt about your beard or not....its about how you feel being partially ugly. Fix this insecurity inside....inshallah....

most of us have not been endowned with bad looks.....but If I did have bad looks I'd be a different person....those whom Allah makes as he makes that dont seem normal or attractive to us...those are the people we should all love....but society it seems doesnt.

I heard once Dr. Zakir Naik said : the person who keeps a beard gets rewarded. But the person who keeps a beard, and knows it doesnt suit him, but he still keeps it for the love of Allah, and the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), gets much much more rewards.

:o  hope this helps brother...

Also (please correct me if i'm wrong and don't quote me) in the Prophet's time they was one sahaba whose beard wasn't growing well(he only had like one hair on his chin) the Prophet smiled at him and the sahabi thinking the reason was because it looked funny took it off and the next day the Prophet when he saw the sahabi turned his face away. Many may look down at the beard brother but we shouldn't care what they think its what the Prophet had and thats everything one should care about inshaALLAH. Slmz

Totally agree. Don't worry about what others think. You are doing it to please Allah. Any beard is better than no beard.

Can I shave off my beard with the intention to grow it back? I'm hoping as Russo said that if I shave it off, the patchy parts will start growing hair.

Personally brother, I would not care what other people think in the end who are you pleasing them or Allah?, have an indifference to their comments because it can neither harm you nor benefit you, So Alhamdulilah personally I would say keep your beard however it may look, and if you get remarks or odd looks, rejoice that you are being rewarded for not only complying with what is obligated but remaining steadfast despite what other people think

What if after you shave it off you slowly lose the desire to have a beard, dont do it.

why not just shave the hairless bits? the only reason why shaving is believed to work is because its supposed to grow back thicker and darker. so presumably if you shave the fine facial hair off the beardless bits its supposed to make it grow back beardy. Though I don't think its actually works like that, it wouldn't hurt to try it. and you wouldn't be touching the actual beard bits so I don't think it would do any harm inshaAllah.

If some of you are really that concerned about these patches then maybe you can apply some hair grow meds on those regions.
