Mosque loans

Assalam Alaikum

So, my mosque is doing some construction work on its property. They need somewhere around $200,000 to pay the contractors. So in scheme of things, they have decided to ask people to loan them money and they will repay it in a year's time.

I was thinking of giving them $200 as that's about all I can afford as a uni student. Should I just give them this money as a donation or loan it to them.

I will do whatever gives me the most blessings from Allah and so I need your help and advice.

Loan or donate?

Ya akhi, a khateeb at jumaa last friday spoke on halaal economics. He spoke specifically on Umar ibd Adb al-Aziz and the economic structure he used. It basically boiled down to the following maxim: "The money you have is not your's it is Allah's, so only do halal things with it, fear Allah, and you will have nothing to worry about."

For the sake of Allah, I suggest donating it.

and what is the matter with you that you spend not in the cause of Allah? To Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and earth...

Who is he that will lend to Allah a goodly loan, then Allah will increase it manifoild to his credit and he will have a good rewards besides that (i.e. paradise)

`Umar bin Al-Khattab said that this Ayah refers to spending in Allah's cause. It was also said that it pertains to spending on children. What is correct is that it is more general than that. So all those who spend in the cause of Allah with good intentions and a sincere heart, then they fall under the generality of this Ayah.

Jazakhallah Khair to all. I have decided to donate $200. I just hope that since I'm contributing to the added construction on the mosque, Allah (swt) will give my family and I reward whenever anyone enters the mosque.
