zakat qn

when calculating zakat, for example when you are seeing how much must be paid against gold/silver...can you approximate how much you got..or does it have to be very accurate i.e. weighed?

and is there a minimum amount off gold/silver before zakat must be payed? cos i dnt rlly have a lot of jewllery
