View Full Version : My jamaat was stopped by the cops for praying
Salaams.
My jamaat just got back a few hours ago. Earlier today, we were heading back, but we had to get something to eat and we had to make Zuhr. We stop at a Wal-Mart and we pray in the parking lot off to the side. When we finish, we all start to eat when a cop pulls up.
Cop: "Hello. I recieved a call about suspicious behavior"
My friend: "oh, it's okay. We were just praying"
Cop: "is it a special day or something"
friend: "nah, we pray 5 times a day"
cop: "I got a call about a group of men in sheets doing suspicious things"
friend: "it's okay, we weren't doing anything"
cop: "who's car is this?"
friend: "his" (points to other brother)
blah, blah, blah.
We were fine. It was kind of scary at first because I was worried that he would find something suspicious (miswak or something) and find some excuse to throw us in jail. But he was like "no offense, but this is a small rural county and not many people are accustomed to you" and stuff like that. We laughed it off afterwards.
So yeah, that was the highlight of the weekend.
lol
suspicious like miswaak? omg wat a weapon :smack:

Yeah....."a group of men in sheets doing suspicious things." That's just hysterical! Like how exactly how would someone consider prostrating on the ground suspicious. Did he get friendly with you afterwards, or was he just to the point?

He was friendly, but to the point. He was like "no offense, just doing my job, etc", and we offered him some food, but he said he had to go.

You offered him food! :D What kind of food did you offer him? Food always works. That's great mashallah!
At least he was cool about it, cause some of them can be right B*st**S.

We offered some shrimp and potatoes.
But yeah, everything's fine. It's just the fact that we were reported to the cops for praying is quite funny.

ah, yes something similiar happened to someone I know.
My cousin's friends were driving down from Gainsville (or somewhere there) to visit us and they stopped at a little town restaurant to eat. So they order their food and the nosy waitress listens in on their conversation, which was, suprise suprise, about how to get to to our house.
So, due to their very suspicious behavior, she calls the police (of course they wear wearing Islamic wear and the works) The police came, along with the FBI, searched their car, interrogated them, gave them no food, kept them all night, blocked off the road for miles and put up a huge fuss.
It just so happened that they came to visit us anyway.
So now I guess there is a big red X on our house :o Oh well.
Sorry for rambling.

Mashallah, thats good Dawah right there!
Mashallah, thats good Dawah right there!
Massive dawah.
While we are on the subject of the jamaat, we did jolla (visitation) to some African brother who has some shop in a gangsta shopping complex. Like everyone in this market was black with the bling and chains and stuff. We walk in with the salwar kameez, and I heard some guy say loudly "whoa, these two be trippin'"

yepppp. It's really funny, but if the same thing happens in my country (I mean a group of people pray somewhere outside) the police will come, because they probably will be attacked by other people and there will be serious fight!
That's not funny anymore :nono:

I was praying once at work.. some "colleague" later complained to my line manager [repeatedly] and said that she was going to call an ambulance because she didn't know what was going on and thought I was in distress and having some difficulty.
People can be complete morons.. even when they know full well what you are doing they can act the fool just because they don't like it.

Good thing it didn't go like...
"Put that object (miswak) on the ground and take 3 steps back!!! Dispatch, I have a suspicious group here and request backup." His partner meanwhile, "Hey Lynyrd, there is a jerrycan containing some liquid (zamzam) at the back. What shall I do with it?"

That doesn't rally surprise me. Some hic probably called it in.
It wouldn't necessarily have to be a hic. Even though I live in a large suburb of Chicago, if I was to pull out my prayer rug and start praying in a public place I bet someone would call the police on me. I say this as a white American revert...someone would call in just because I am a Muslim.
