It takes 6 years to be a complete aalim. First two years is only arabic grammer then its hadith learning and other things.
Becoming a Hafidh could take you 2 years full time depending on your mentality.

Madrasah Riyãdul Qur’ãn
Upon its establishment, one of the fundamental aims of the Academy was to encourage young people to continue their study of Islãm. Facilities for continuing with part-time Islamic education in prime teens were quite scarce and thus many young people were reluctant to continue with the pursuit of Islamic knowledge. In order to tackle this growing need Madrasah Riyãdul Qur’ãn was established.
The madrasah currently offers further education courses, Hifz classes and the innovative part-time ‘ãlim curriculum. Combined with academic studies the Madrasah also places great emphasis on tarbiyah (moral and spiritual training) helping the madrasah’s teenage students grow into the role models of the future.
At present 142 students are enrolled in the Madrasah. Since its initiation the Madrasah has imparted education to 440 students ranging from Hifz, Further Islamic Education, the part-time ‘Ãlim classes, etc. Currently 98 students are progressing towards the completion of Hifz. To date 41 have completed Hifz from this venue.
Jãme‘ah Riyãdul ‘Uloom
Founded in 1998, Jãme‘ah Riyãdul ‘Uloom is a full-time educational establishment specialising in the classical Islamic Sciences. Over 80 students from around the UK and abroad are at presently enrolled at the institute. Students have the opportunity of enrolling in the six year ‘Ãlimiyyah Course (Islamic theology programme), the Hifz course, the Tajweed (Intonation) Course and have the option to undertake GCSE and A level qualifications in Urdu and Arabic.
The institute aims to provide students with the necessary foundations in the Qur’ãn and Sunnah as well as the moral and spiritual attributes which have been the characteristics of scholars of Islãm throughout the generations.
To date a total of 17 students have graduated as Hãfiz and 26 students have graduated from the ‘Ãlimiyyah Course.

i was just wondering what it takes to become an aalim. what do u have to do, and where?
Assalamu Alaykum,
There are various institutions, some of which are listed above inshaAllah.
What do you have to do
Study. Hard work. Revise. It's 'ilm so once practised it makes it alot easier, but deeni knowledge is something different and if you have the zeal for it you should go for it.
It takes years of study to become an 'aalim. In the UK it is on average 5 years, abraod it may be more.

To become an aalim, you will need to be determined, open to learning and have a fighting spirit.
assalam u alaikum wa rehmatullah wa barakata hu
jazak allah for ur info's im 22 mashallah im studying aeronautics at salford uni, but im taking a gap year to try some new things. dont worry the alim thing is not a "phase" i really really really wana be one, more then anything. alhamdulillah i am a muslim and i feel ashamed if i dont try my best to teach the people the true religion. believe it or not alot of people are confused as to what islam is and dont have the opportunity to approach a learned person. most of the imams about are from "back home" n they usually mix culture with religion. i wana seperate that n guide people back to the unexplainable feeling of pleasing Allah (SWT).
i know trying to become an alim is hard work n im willing to do that i was just wondering how i would go about doing that,
jazak allah again brothers and sisters for ur advice :D luv ya'z
wasalam
