Salam brother and sisters,

I am currently studying Near and Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic.

I am having some struggles in doing my essay was hoping if I could get some help and tips inshAllah. I am firstly having issues in deciding which essay to answer here are the two titles out of the four I feel are ok to do lol

1) How far can you account for the fact that law became the dominant and characteristic feature of Islam in the 3rd/9th century?

2) How far can you trace the process and account for the fact that Islam became the religion of the vast majority in the Middle East?

Any suggestions, recommendations and advice will be really helpful.

Jazak Allah Khair,

Tahmina

i would say number 2, theres loads more to talk about.

its basically about the rise of Islam, how it spread across the globe but retreated sadly toward the end. dont know how u would trace the process though.

u mean an essay of the title "Is the different views of how Islam spread and the issues in the dates from the traditional account and Orientalist" ??

i think u will need more information on the orientalist and the traditional account. can u explain what/who they are and what their account is on the spread of Islam?

I think the 2nd one aswell. Are u from Soas? (just seems like it with these kind of essays :p) they would have given some recommended reading for the essay? and i am sure from those u can get all the orientalist views..so insha allah someone can point u towards some good books from more islamic sources 2 balance. then to trace the process cant u just try to keep it quite chronological, like firstly it spread to here by this means, and then continued to spread here by this means etc but obviously do it bit more in depth not like that.. and show whats the historical evidence about it, then any differences in accounts between traditional islamic sources n orientalist views, u can go into that and discuss whats the differing view and why there might b those dif theories?

oh no i mean me answering the question I have to give a balanced view because the Orientalist account is different from the traditional Muslim account of the 'rise of Islam' eg - patricia crone and michael cook's works
