2) y = x(x^2+2) [x^2 means xsquared)

4) y = (x+2)(x+4)

11) y = (x+3)^2

17) y= 2/3^3

18) y = 1/2x^3

show ur working out so that others and i can understand

I'd love to help but I haven't done differentiation yet :( (just started A level maths lol)

lol do u do ANY work yourself?

2) y = x(x^2+2)

y=x^3 + 2x
dy/dx = 3x^2 + 2

4) y = (x+2)(x+4)

y=x^2 + 6x + 8
dy/dx = 2x + 6

11) y = (x+3)^2

y=x^2 + 6x + 9

dy/dx = 2x + 6

17) y= 2/3^3

:S shoudlnt there b a x here. otherwise its 0
18) y = 1/2x^3

y= 2x^-3
dy/dx = -6x^-4 i think

Yes i do, but i forgot how to differentiate! this is weird!!

:jkk: :)

but u nvr completed the answers :(

ur ment so solve it, not leave it in the form of dy/dx!

what do you mean? i cant do any more unless i have specific values of x or y

2) y = 2 x (you multiply x by the number the power is, then take minus one from the power. the +2 becomes 0 coz there's no x there)

4) multiply out the brackets you get

x^2 + 6x + 8

then diff it. the +8 becomes 0, the 6x becomes 6, the x^2 becomes 2x

so

2x +6

Now read my poem The Opposite of Hope (http://www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162208) :D and comment

u totally ignored my post about your poem:(

and 2) is wrong

doh:smack:

ok one question u got for number 2
2) y = x(x^2+2)

y=x^3 + 2x
dy/dx = 3x^2 + 2

why is it 3x^2 + 2

why not 3x^2 + 2x?

because remember u times by the power, then take away 1 from the power. so u times by 1 then make x to the power of 0 (anything to the power of 0 is 1). therefore its just 2x1=2

ummmm....nope it's totally right. what do you think it is? coz you're wrong.

and :shock: how can you imply i've ignored your post about my poem (http://www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162208)!!!! i would never do such a thing. my poem rocks :p

EDIT: aaahhhhh i see it's x(x+2). my bad, i couldn't see it. ok then, ana, multiply it out then diff. i'm here if you don't get it (as long as you comment on my poem)

for number 4 i got 8x+8

i c

my working out for number 4:

(x+2)(x+4)
x^2+4x+2x+8
2x^2-1 + 4x +2x+8
2x+4x+2x+8
therefore it equals = 8x+8

how did u come up with ur answer

Ibn Al-Jarrah
03-03-08, 08:35 PM
for number 4 i got 8x+8

(working backwards-integration:D:D) that means u differentiated 4x^2 + 8x

let me explain:

4) y = (x+2)(x+4)
expand brackets: y = x^2 + 6x + 8

differentiate: x^2 [times by the power, then subtract 1 from the power] gives 2x

6x goes to 6

so dy/dx = 2x + 6 (the 8 is 8x^0 which is 8x0=0)

:smack:

so 8x is 8x^1?

aha, now i get it : :jkk: bro

if i need any help cuz i git 26questions do u mind if i pm u?

aint it like a quadratic equation?
