I have had pretty much no work experience worth mentioning in the last 20 years and I left school with less than dazzling exam results.
Any suggestions Umm Socky?

You have to write something impressive on the cv. I promised i'd be posting mine, i'll do that in a bit after editing personal details and you can rip off it if you want- just change the words around :)

This was my covering letter for my placement CV- Alhamdulillah it worked and all the spare ones, i made paper planes out of them :)
The covering letter is pretty essential as it is the fiest thing that will grab the focus of your employee- you have to advertise yourself as boldly as possible without 'smothering' them. Ooze self confidence but don't throttle them with it :p
:wswrwb:
hey sis
we were taught a little differently on how to write a cover letter.
its basically the same as yours with one paragraph on your work & education background, and the last paragraph is you thanking and its closing but for us we have a first paragraph that is an intro kind of just introducing yourself, where you found this position to be available and some general skills that directly relate.

I guess it can vary but you want to try that bit 'different' but your skills come into the cv, which :insha: i'll post a bit later. You don't want to make the covering letter too too long as it's glanced upon with key words being picked on- it's the CV that gets the attention and i've seen the employers highlighting key words from the cv.
:wswrwb:
Salaam,
How can I attach you my cv, I would appreciate it if you can check it for me.

*****IMPORTANT*****: Can i please stress again that :insha: feel free to send me your CV's, i don't mind one bit checking them but you must take out your personal details, esp the brothers.
i don't want to know your age, your number or where you live.
This is irrelevant and i'm not your boss.
Please try :insha: to extract personal information before sending me the cv's.

Do you have a covering letter with you cv?
If yes- then review it :insha: see if you can make it stand out
and if no: think about maybe writing one :insha: cuz they do pull the attention of the reader esp if you summarise your skills.

PAH!!! Hard working!!! :torture:
anyways.. i shall behave.. its all good in here so no messing about! let;s get some hot Interview Tips!!!
Preparation and confidence
Preparation and confidence are very important tips. Good preparation always creates confidence. So the important thing to an interview is to be well prepared. In this you have to consider two things:
You must prepare yourself practically for the interview.
You have to gather information which is useful during the interview.
Checklist
While going to interview you must consider the following things:
You have to confirm about the time, date and location of the interview and name of interviewee where appropriate.
You have to plan to get there no earlier than half an hour before the interview time.
You must ready with your dress which is professional.
Concentrate on the interview at the interview.
If you are asked to bring certificates, references etc., get them ready before the day. Your interview letter must be with you.
On arrival ensure the receptionist knows you are there.
Be on time!
Public transport may be useless if the traffic is heavy. Always keep in mind that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. So be on time at the particular location of interview.
Also if you are there so early, you can wait nearby cafe of shop. And if you are going to be late, then best option is call them.
Be Prepared!
Preparation means not only preparation of your syllabus etc. but also look at the company's website and learn something about the company before you attend your interview.
Write down and practice possible questions!
If you collect the job interview sample questions and practice for it then it will make easy to remember when you get to the interview. Use the third person when talking about the job. Avoid sounding as though you assume the job is yours.
It is fine to ask about the package on offer and accommodation - living in and living out are particularly relevant. Do not forget to find out if the company will guarantee a resort or chalet - many will only allocate you a country. You could also try a fewer more testing questions such as how they differentiate themselves from their competitors or what they think the toughest/hardest part of the job is.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression!
First keep in mind that you never the second chance to make a first impression so be careful.
Some points are here to remember:
Smile is one of the thing which may matter in your impression. Good smile always please people.
Dressing also an important thing. You should be in professional dress. And must be looking formal.
Do not forget for firm handshake.
Eye contact without glaring is showing your confidence.
Do not talk too much!

:wswrwb:
the places i apply at dont need resumes
Salaam Cartman,
Even if its small school, you need to show why you want to work their and how you fulfil the criteria.
Perhaps try talking to the manager when you pick up the application form. As him/her what type of person they would be looking for and then try to show through your application form how you fulfil that criteria.
Also, talk to other workers who work there and ask them what the job application process was like. What the job entails, whether they like it, and stuff like that. Then you could say in interview that it sounded like a good job from what the employees said.
Allahu Alim. Allah knows best.
May Allah help you find something good for you. Ameen.
Salaam.
