All these new features, but the most fundamental one is still missing. RSS Feeds...

I just wanted to add my vote for this feature, if time permits.

It would be a great addition to all the other great new features being rolled out.

yes what are RSS feeds?

A forum without some sort of XML feed (RSS, ATOM etc), is compariable to tea without biscuits/cakes...

haha, "forums without rss feeds" are compariable to "tea without biscuits", i.e. tea is so much better with biscuits, and once you get used to tea with biscuits, you always want biscuits with tea. Same with forums and rss feeds, i.e. once you get used to rss feeds, you want them everywhere with all forums you go to.

Anyhow, click the link below if you want to know what rss feeds are:

but I've had tea with biscuits and personally, I prefer tea without biscuits. But maybe I'm just weird. However this RRS feeds things sounds interesting. Maybe one day I can get over my ludditified technophobia enough to actually use them lol

hmmm, how about tea and cake?

But seriously, rss feeds and forums were made for each other. I just hope we get authenticated rss feeds if the owners of ummah.com decide to enable/implement them.

So full feeds are shown based on the groups you're in at ummah.com.

cake is quite nice with tea....... :1popcorn:

This is the first time I've heard of RSS feeds. I think I should be able to go to my profile on ummah.com and get feeds from all my other websites  but thats probably too much innit lol. You just mean getting ummah.com feeds sent to an RRS page site like the google one on the video innit.

yeah google reader is a good one, but you can get rss feed readers for your desktop, so a message will popup on your computer telling you that someone has posted something on ummah.com without you even having to have internet explorer/firefox open!!!

Sajid, what posts are being included in the feed?

I see only a few posts via the feed. Does anyone else see everything?

sajid

woah, that was quick. :jkk:
what are the chances of getting authenticated rss feeds so we can see all our areas? some something like:

http://[username]:[password]@[domain]/[path]

so

http://mashcaster:mypasword@www.ummah.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2

it would be amazing if vbulletin had this option built in too...

Here are a few options for everyone

basic
http://www.ummah.com/forum/external.php?type=RSS2

order by latest post
http://www.ummah.com/forum/external.php?lastpost=true

display specific forums (does not display private forums even if you login)
http://www.ummah.com/forum/external.php?f=1,2,3,4

so the following will display the general forum only in lastpost order
http://www.ummah.com/forum/external.php?type=RSS2&lastpost=true&f=1
