FREE WEEKLY WALK-IN COUNSELLING AND MEDIATION SERVICES
Date: Every Saturdays
Time: 5pm - 7pm
Venue: Froud Centre, Romford Road, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF
This service has been organised due to the increasing number of social
problems within the Muslim community and the pitiful lack of support
from mosques and Muslim organisationsin addressing such issues. The sessions
will be run by experienced and practicing Muslim counsellors, and both brothers
and sisters will be available. We hope to offer a confidential and professional
service to all Muslims with concerns ranging from personal, social, family or
academic worries to longer term, often more complex, psychological problems.
Attendees will benefit from a one-to-one service.
We will also be joined by the Muslim Mediation Service* who will be offering
one-to-one drop in sessions with a Muslim Mediator, where you can discuss any
matters arising from any conflicts you are experiencing within the home or
the community free of charge.
*The Muslim Mediation Service has been resolving family and community conflicts
since 2003. Their trained and experienced Mediators have been supporting individuals,
parents and children and couples facing disputes by working with them to resolve
their issues through listening, understanding and communicating effectively.
Please note that the initial session will be free and if the person requires further
help then they would need to contact alternative services or the individual counsellors
themselves. All are welcome.

Do you have any questions on laws of marriage and married life in Islam
you would like to ask? Does Islam allow the period of courtship before
engagement or marriage? What are the laws governing Nikah (marriage) in
Islam? Is there such a thing as an “English wedding” as opposed to
“Islamic wedding” under Islamic laws of marriage? What about Common-Law marriages?
What are the mutual rights and obligations of husband and wife towards each
other in Islam? If you would like to know answers to the above or any other
questions you may have you are welcome to come the one day course on
classical and contemporary interpretations of Personal Status Laws in Islam.
*Shaykh Michael Mumisa is a highly respected Muslim academic, Theologian,
and Islamic scholar. He first completed four years of full-time residential
training in Arabic and Islamic studies at Iqra Darul Ilm Academy before
joining one of Africa’s foremost residential Islamic universities and
seminaries where he graduated with distinction and was awarded the
‘Alimiyya (Al-Azhar University graduate degree equivalent) in Islamic
classics and classical Arabic Literature after six years of full-time
training. He then joined the Department of Semitic Languages at the
Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit and graduated with a BA Honours degree
cum laude (with distinction/ Upper First Class Honours). He briefly taught
Classical and Modern Arabic Literature and Islamic Studies in the Department
of Semitic Languages at the same university before going on to join the
University of Birmingham where he completed his MPhil research degree
specialising in “Law, Hermeneutics and Social Change in Muslim Legal
Theory: With Special Reference to the text al-Muwafaqat by Abu Ishaq
al-Shatibi (d. 1388).” He is currently doing his PhD research (full-
time) specialising in Literature and Literary Theory at the University
of Cambridge (Trinity Hall) as a Special Livingstone Scholar. He has
also been lecturer at the Institute of Continuing Education of the
University of Cambridge , the Centre for the Study of Muslim-Jewish
Relations in Cambridge , visiting lecturer at the University of
Birmingham , Newman University College , and has taught Philosophy
and Theology to MA students at the Markfield Institute of Higher
Education in Leicestershire. He is author of a number of studies
including Islamic Law: Theory & Interpretation (2002) and
Introducing Arabic Grammar (2003).

training in Arabic and Islamic studies at Iqra Darul Ilm Academy before
joining one of Africa’s foremost residential Islamic universities and
seminaries where he graduated with distinction and was awarded the
‘Alimiyya (Al-Azhar University graduate degree equivalent) in Islamic
classics and classical Arabic Literature after six years of full-time
training. He then joined the Department of Semitic Languages at the
Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit and graduated with a BA Honours degree
cum laude (with distinction/ Upper First Class Honours). He briefly taught
Classical and Modern Arabic Literature and Islamic Studies in the Department
of Semitic Languages at the same university before going on to join the
University of Birmingham where he completed his MPhil research degree
specialising in “Law, Hermeneutics and Social Change in Muslim Legal
Theory: With Special Reference to the text al-Muwafaqat by Abu Ishaq
al-Shatibi (d. 1388).” He is currently doing his PhD research (full-
time) specialising in Literature and Literary Theory at the University
of Cambridge (Trinity Hall) as a Special Livingstone Scholar. He has
also been lecturer at the Institute of Continuing Education of the
University of Cambridge , the Centre for the Study of Muslim-Jewish
Relations in Cambridge , visiting lecturer at the University of
Birmingham , Newman University College , and has taught Philosophy
and Theology to MA students at the Markfield Institute of Higher
Education in Leicestershire. He is author of a number of studies
including Islamic Law: Theory & Interpretation (2002) and
Introducing Arabic Grammar (2003).
