A few quotes about pride:
The Prophet :saw: said, “The one who greets first and doesn’t wait to be greeted is free from pride.”
‘Umar (RA) said:
و من قال هو عالم فهو جاهل
و من قال هو في جنة فهو في النار
“And whoever calls himself a scholar; he is an ignorant person,
and whoever says that he is in Paradise, he is in Hell fire”
‘AbduLlah ibn Mas'ud (RA) said, “Salvation lies in two things and destruction also lies in two things. Salvation lies in Taqwa and Niyyah whilst destruction lies in despondency and having an opinion about oneself.”
A Sahabah (RA) asked ‘Aishah (RA), “When will I know that I am a good person?” She (RA) replied, “As long as you consider yourself to be evil.” Then he (RA) continued, “And when will I know that I am an evil person?” She (RA) replied, “As long as you consider yourself to be good.”
Musa (AS) conversed with Allah (SWT), “Who is the most wretched in creation?” Allah (SWT) said, “The one who has these four qualities: The one who has pride in his heart. The one who is arrogant with his tongue. The one who has weak conviction and the one who misers with his wealth.”
Prophet :saw: said, “The proud man will never greet. The proud man will never apologise. A proud will never visit a sick.”
Prophet :saw: said, “When you hear someone say, ‘People are useless and hopeless,’ then remember he’s the worst of them all.”
