ah man this is annoying
You're sitting in your favourite kebab or chicken shop - probably either just finished eating and are now talking comfortably or are waiting for the food and talking comfortably and quietly - and the people next to you are slurping that can of coke like there's no tomorrow! Its like man let the drink sip into your mouth no need to get ahead of yourself!
Soetimes its alright when its teenagers I just think 'well theyre young now etiquette isn't really something they need to worry about in their 'badboy' stage - but today I heard this Muslimah - noticed she had on an abaya (jilbaab) - probably early 20s or something, talking quietly and then out comes this big metal echoing noise! And shes just drinking away like its not a problem!
Is it just me or is anyone else kinda annoyed - like I said teens are let off - but I got friends in their mid 20s who stil do it and I'm thinkin' stop! Pour it into a glass if its gona stop you slurping away!

Alright calm down m8y
Thing is if you want people you love to stop, be sure to tell them the extra chances of getting metal poisoning if they do it long term (that is slrup everytime with every single can of coke they have in life) that should put them off. Metal poisoning can give you all sorts - bowel obstructions, even blindness! (In fact thats one of the most common results...)
So yeh!

Yeah it's annoying, but before you condemn people, just think to yourself, what if that brother/sister has a mouth problem and knows he/she is doing it but can't help it.
Do you really think people (our brothers and sisters) would go out of their way to disgust or annoy others?

Dunno, but I always feel these things are down to
a) lack of education on social etiquette
b) medical condition
If they KNEW they were cheesing people off, I'm sure those who could, would stop. So that's why, inshallah when our generation become parents, we need to teach our kids what are good and bad manners.

Indeed, indeed, that is well said indeed.
I guess we should start with ourselves though, by rectifying some of our manners and conduct.

The ancient Chinese who invented the tea drinking ceremony (and discovered tea) Slurped their Tea, if anything the slurpers are actually demonstrating the proper etiquette.
Slurping increases the flavour of all liquid drinks and makes the taste more acute

some slurping gets to me ... if its something like tea and really really hot .. i mean ... let it cool down .. you dont have to burn your mouth over it
But my pet peeve does have to be ppl eating with their mouths open :torture:
I like it very quiet .. so anything that noisy really annoys me, esp in the evenings when I'm trying to concentrate on something :o

No drinking slowly makes the taste more acute. Slurping does not help with that. I'm not to big on reprimanding people for manners, but slurping is irritating.

Bad Habit in YOUR opinion. I honestly haven't had a complaint till I came on here (ummah.com) and even then I have met many snobby, rich people who are so particular with their ettiquettes they have no problem with mine. Maybe I slurp pleasantly :D
I can't wait to slurp my indian tea in the evening. Ahhh heaven:inlove:

Tis not our fault that you people cannot control your anger. If it really annoys you so much then approach the person and ask 'em not to 'slurp' rather than bantering on here :D

Good point, but its like - if you tell someone to stop they're like "why? This is the way I drink you get me"...
lol ... they probably dont see it as bad mannerism ... and most likely grew up doing it ... and if no one in the family told them off, probably the slurp too. lol
If its realy really loud, it can get on your nerves but if its not too bad, ignore it. lol.
my sis was smacking on her food the other day .. and she tends to do it when she is talking about something, deeply analyzing something and at the same time nibbling something ... and the noise ... god help me ... was really getting to me. i'm not the one to speak up quickly and had previiuosly told her off on a few things. she seems to think im picking on her now. so i didnt say anything about it, cuz she came to visit for only a couple of days. But the next time she's around and does it ... i need to put an end to it! Not only cuz it gets on my nerves, but sometimes the person doesnt realize what they are doing. and i wouldnt her to be embarrasing herself in her workplace :( (I thought about her work only after she left)
inshallah :p

Tasting tea is like tasting wine. Slurp it to aerate it - unlike in Western countries, in Asia, the home of tea, slurping is a sign of appreciation and knowledge and not considered bad manners! Let it slide down the middle of the tongue in one sip, and down the sides of the tongue in the next, followed by the whole tongue with a big slurp. Pay attention to the subtleties and the complexity of the tea. A large part of learning to appreciate tea is learning to slow down and pay attention to the details.
