I already wear a headscarf but i now feel that wearing just the headscarf isn't enough so i'v decided to start wearing a jilbab from monday(thats wen college restarts)
It's something i'v been thinkin of doing for the last two years but i never seem to start I feel kind of scared:(
Has anyone else recently started wearing a jilbab?
how would the people around me react(i.e family, people at college)
where can you buy good jilbabs?

Hmm..good abayahs..in dubai :|

nah u can buy some everywhere here in england. but theyre a rip off. and not latest styles. if u want a simple one..have one made to ure size. better.

sorry i dont live in UK but i get mine made. i used to buy them before but theyre such a rip off as binty said.

wat u should do since u want one like right now is just buy a simple one from the store and buy material to get a few made. its not a rip off to just buy one. :p

i got 2 more tailored just a couple weeks ago but the lady didnt make the sleeves right :( so make sure to be specific wen giving measurements.

Masha-Allah, sis, thats really good to hear:up:
Ummm, the easiest way u can get one is to get it made, just buy some material and give it to ur tailor. Although i doubt it'll be made by monday...so ur only other option is to buy one.U should find it in any islamic shops. I agree with the others though, they are quite pricey...Heres the link to Hijab shop, u might find some u like in here.

Dont worry about it sis, i know how you feel. i started wearing it last summer, none of my friends at college wore it. i was scared at first because i thaught everyone was going to stare at me and I didn't want to start wearing it for a while and take it off again but alhamdulilah i've not looked back ever since.
If like me you always get late for college, just leave your PJ's on under your jilbab and no one will know. ;)

That's what I did. I bought one from a shop called 'Sakina' which was next door to Shepherd's Bush tube station. It was cotton and cost me about £30 but that was a few years ago I dunno if they've increased the prices.

MashaAllah! It's great you want to start wearing it. If you live in an area where other sisters cover too then they shouldn't be that surprised. If not...then let them react how they want, you have made the decision and the right one indeed!Alhamdulilah.

the best way to do it is buy material like the other sisters said. But since you want to wear it on Monday it would make sense to buy a ready made one. Where abouts do you live sis? Do you have any islamic shops near you?

may Allah reward you, and make it easy for you!Aameen.

alhamdulillah u can sew! i can too but only on the little sewing machines... the big industrial ones are too scary!

and yes i do wear jilbab. i started wearing the scarf and jilbab both at the same time (i think i was about 16) so it was a big humungous step for me and yes at first i was quite nervous around my friends and to an extent i spose i wasnt my usual self around them... and i was very paranoid too... i kept thinking everyone was staring at me. but all this was a loooooooong time ago and alhamdulillah havent looked back since (until now of course)

so yeah, sis 1 level was right, dnt worry about what those around u will think because at the end of the day, allah is the judge of us all and it is him we should seek to please.

Mine was from an Islamic shop in Leicester, i get off net aswell, check Simplyislam.com they're quite cool

Wear Palestinian scarf with it :D .. No go for su'in plain, or somethin with a simple design, nothin flowery okay :0:.. Maybe a bit of work, stripes.. You can work with hijabs, you'll always get decent ones in English shops, try H&M, new look, MK1 for average priced ones

Okay best of luck Sis, i told you b4 that when you choose a jilbab make sure it isnt bright but i forgot to add if you're lookin for hijabs then choose whatever catches your eye, you can contrast the colours eg if you're wearin a khaki green jilbab then it can be matched with a brown hijab.. With a black one anythin would go, pastel colours like chalky green or turquoise, pink or even red if you wanted

Assalamu alaykum!
I'm just a new member here. I just wanted to share some experience. the problem is that I live in Russia where 95% of people think that being muslim makes you a terrorist and they are VERY suspicious and scared seeing a girl with a headscarf. When newly converted, I used to wear wide jeans and a knee-length blous, of course with a headscarf. But despite such a "modern look" people approached very suspiciously. So I decided - if the way I dress up doesn't make them think better about Islam, why should I care about their opinion. So now I shift to jilbabs. Alhamdulillah in our city there is a girl - also a converted Russian and she is a professional tailor. So she can sew anything I want. There are at most 10 veiled muslimahs in our city - so we seem very strange to people. As for Moscow, you can see even women in niqab there. Being a Moslem is very dangerous here - may be you've heard of cases of killing women because they are veiled or men because they are swarthy. But we should rely on Allah but not on opinion of other people. If you are ready for wearing jilbab and you feel enough strength and commitment you shouldn't put it off...

Sister i live in notts.People here are not religious at all you find girls wearin headsxarfs with skinny leg jeans:(

Ok. Don't worry about if people around you are religious or not, i know it can be a put off because u may not have that much encouragement. But just try and remember why you are doing it and who you are doing it for. Personally i think that (and i know it's easier said than done) but you have got through the first step- hijab, and wearing the hijab is a bigger, maybe harder step than if you're already wearing a hijab and u start to wear jilbab. I duno if that made sense!

I don't know of any shops in notts, if you don't have any local ones then best to buy online, or make it urself. You sew yourself, mashaAllah! Get a ready made one then use that as a measurement for your future ones. But as you want to wear it on Monday i really don't know where you can get one online that quick.

sorry sis I don't think i've helped:o

Assalamu alaikum sis.

I think sister Alifah shared a wonderful experience of hers and she gave great advice, may Allah bless her . Don't worry about what others are thinking of you, especially if you're doing something right. You're going to college to study and not to get anyone's attention and that should be your foremost niyah (for the sake of Allah ofcourse). If anyone asks you why you do anything islamic and you're too nervous to give lengthy detailed responses just say 'it's part of my religion' simple as.

Don't worry, it's all cool. Everyone else should be worrying about what they're wearing not you ;)

Assalamu Alaikum
I already wear a headscarf but i now feel that wearing just the headscarf isn't enough so i'v decided to start wearing a jilbab from monday(thats wen college restarts)
It's something i'v been thinkin of doing for the last two years but i never seem to start I feel kind of scared:(
Has anyone else recently started wearing a jilbab?
how would the people around me react(i.e family, people at college)
where can you buy good jilbabs?

mashAllah oukthi, may Allah swt make it easy 4 u and reward u abundently

i think it may it a bit weird to some ppl esp if u live or attend a school where jilbabies r not common.

but ppl get used to it as with anything, and ur not doing it 4 ppl so who cares.

hmm mines r a combination of made to measure ones.. ask sisters esp asian ones they tend to be really good at it mashAllah

u can buy them from select places like back home, or even in the uk... maybe specify a location and someone who is familiar with tht area can tell you the best places to get them from inshAllah

i hope Allah swt makes it easy 4 u, he always does alhamdulilah.. keep at it and stay in good company those who will encourage u and bring u closer to Allah.

trust me it will be the BEST! decision you will have made so far alhamdulilah:inlove:

i have some which are the right length so i can wear them with sandals or flats in the summer. other ones are a bit longer which are especially for the winter so i can wear my boots with them. i dnt have any special occasion ones. a couple of fancier ones but nothing spesh! and my ones are a mixture of ready-made ones as well as mummy-made ones!

yes.. shoes are another one of my fetishes, as are bags. its all gta co-ordinate! lol i get into a right old state sometimes!

Salaam,

First of all congratulations.

You should try a brand new company that has entered the market www.aabuk.com . They are very stylish and unique, with jilbaabs to suit all occasions. They use very high quality fabrics which isnt available. Its the first lifestyle brand for Muslim Women. Take a look at www.aabuk.com

I don't like the necklines of some of them, I'm not really a fan of high collared abayas they remind me of men's thobes. the comfort in cotton looks nice and comfy will make a good nightgown.

I think the prices of Aab abayas are reflected by the quality of fabrics they use in their garments. The work on some of their designs are quite intricate. They have different ranges to suit different price ranges such as everyday wear to the occasions for the special times.

I became an immediate fan when I saw them at their launch event. Good point about the high necks though - didnt think of it like that before.,
