A baby uses its sense of smell more, it can smell its mother :o Or sense her...and as for recognising in mirror...they always seem to laugh and giggle when they look into it, Dont know what they're thinking at the time though

dunno about ques 2....but when a baby sees itself in the mirror...it'll just laugh and think its another baby...and get all  @ seeing your reflection :D
when they're older like 18 months/2 years, they'll probs start recognising themselves....

On average, children start to recognise themselves in the mirror at arount 14 months old (one and a bit years) - its hard to test though. My daugher recognised that I was holding a snack behind her right ear whilst she was looking in the mirror when she was about 10 months old. She looked at the snack's reflection in the mirror, then reached straight for the real snack without checking first. So obviously she understood something about how a mirror worked, and probably did realise that she was looking at herself in the mirror.

The usual way of testing is to put a blob of lipstick on a childs nose, if the child tries to rub it off their nose, they must recognise that they are looking at themselves in the mirror and they have a blob of lipstick on their nose. The problem with this test is that a child may recognise themselves in the mirror but not care that they have lipstick on their nose, or not realise that this red blob on their nose is not supposed to be there. Hence me and my husband testing if she could recognise how a mirror worked with the snack test.

My baby can. (she's 18 months old) My husband was waiting for me outside a building (a women only one so everyone leaving the building would have been all in black and niqaab'd up) with Ruqayya in the car too, and as soon as I left the building Ruqayya started pointing at me and saying "mum-mum! mum-mum!" :hidban: and that was about five or six metres away too :hidban: mashaAllah

I have no idea when a baby starts to recognise her mother in niqaab at a distance... best ask lots of different Saudi women when their babies could recognise them in niqaab mashaAllah

babies can recognize from smelling you know.

i think it was in the canadian families class back in high school they showed this documentary and how mom's can recognize their baby just from his or her scent, it was incredible because they did a test on the mothers blindfolding them and the moms knew their babies but wen they did the test on the dad, they all failed :p

I have a 7mth baby girl... she laughs & smile when she looks at the mirror. I don't think she knows it's her.

As far as recognizing her mom in niqaab.. not from far away. But she use her smell senses to recognize her. she also knows our voices by now.

Newborns vl b more calm in other women's lap, more than the dad or other men. Women share some scent which makes babies comfortable..
