Assalaamu Alaykum,

I have been working in the public school systems for a while now and I have concluded that these are horrific places for Muslim children to be in. If we just look at them from an educational standpoint they fail miserably for a number of reasons. You can read more about that here (http://themanoffewwords.com/crisis-of-islamic-education/).

But what is really neglected, especially in this folder about parenting is a serious discussion on giving our children a better education. Islamic schools that are modeled after Public schools are a huge expense on our communities and suffer the same educational setbacks but they are tolerated because of the gender segregation and a supposedly "Islamic environment."

We should seriously consider homeschooling for our children at least for the more "secular" subjects. For Islamic Education then its probably best to have traditional madrassas.

one of the users here is developing a forum about homeschooling, and there are already several threads here which discuss it. Several parents here homeschool or are considering homeschooling.
