The alphabets, Alif, baa, taa.....

Best way to learn is from a teacher, you'll make mistakes if try to learn on your own. Try finding a good teach from your local masjid.

No i can read the quran properly, what i meant was learning the translation of arabic instead of just reading the english version.

Like understanding the meanings of basic words.

On this part of the forum, Anna did some lessons. Read them and try answering them. I think Anna corrects them too.

hangout with Arabs who speak Arabic all the time. bets way to learn any language is to hang out with native speakers.

I picked up some urdu frm my University friends & also from the Indian/Pakistani workers we have. I know basic greetings, phrases to tell them get back to work & stop wasting time, and some swear words..

Not even Qur'an?

If you can read the Qur'an you can read Arabic, its a starting point.

Get some beginners arabic reading and writing books aswell.

I have a question: how do you explain the expression "subHaana llaah" "glorified is God"?

I am not familiar with Arabic grammar terminology, so if I could have an explanation in plain English.

.: Anna :.
24-01-08, 08:49 PM
The explanation which I read for that, is that actually the verb there is omitted.

It would have the meaning of usabbi7u sub7aana Allah / Usabbi7u Allaha sub7aana(n) where the use of that noun is emphatic, however this phrase is commonly used without the verb.. but the noun alone, but because of that ommited meaning this is why it has a fatha as if that was a subject.

but allahu alam maybe there are different opinions in this?

Yup Yup, Agreed ^^ I had to buy 'Mastering Arabic' and 'Alif baa' for my course...they're a lil too basic for me for the stage I'm at....(Talking about Alif Baa) So I havnt really used it...But I'd recommend it
