depends if ur gonna keep it fully segregated or not? cos if not then u might have to wear, but u cd get a nice one?
for nikah i wore it cos we had only mainly immediate family there so it was a bit mixed, bt that includes like bro in laws etc, and wore for registering at the town hall aswell (but a dif one :p) cos obv that is mixed and u are outside the house there in a public building.
but for waleema didnt.

Knowing my family, relatives and friends, I don't think my wedding will remain segregated, even if it starts off so.
I've seen so many beautiful wedding outfits, but I wouldn't wear that style of dress due to the segregation issue, besides, I don't think i'll feel comfortable wearing that sort of outfit in front of soo many people, even if it's in front of females. I'm so accustomed to wearing abayas. I've decided, whatever i wear, I'm just going to have a long dress made almost like an abaya.
my brothers wedding I had a stunning dress made, and it looked really good. the best thing was that it was comfortable and I was covered, everybody loved it, and it looked much nicer than alot of the ready made outfits other people were wearing.
you don't have to go for a certain look i.e traditional indian or all english to look good.
If I get married, I'd like to wear a white gown for the actual wedding.
I agree with Umm Umarah- that sounds like a good idea:up: I think for me it depends on what kind of man I marry and what his family are like. If I had my own way, I think I would wear jilbab to my wedding but if the guys family are strict enough to ensure proper segregation all the way, then I'd feel more at ease to wear a lenga or other wedding outfit. Even if I wore a lenga, I'd want my head and neck completely covered and very little or no make up cos' I know people will take photos as well.

i just wore hijab and abaya, as my walli was marrying me to my husband anyway there was no need for me to be there with the men, so to save from fitnah i stayed at home with my father, grandmother and my sons, then my husband came to get me after we were married. I dont agree with women wearing non islamic clothing to get married in, as it seems to me the rules suddenly become very lax in so called "islamic" weddings i far too often see pics of sisters in tight fitting saris and lengha with no khimar on at all, and not covering in front of their husbands to be :nono: just because its your wedding day doesnt mean u can disobey Allah because u want to wear some fancy dress without khimar.

Insh'Allah I'd like a very simple nikah, then you can just wear a simple but pretty dress with a nice abaya and scarf for going to the masjid and for like if you all have a meal after or something.
the walima- definitely segregated so you can wear what you like. since it's sunnah and you're doing it for reward, I really don't understand how people can compromise this by doing haraam at the same time!
since I plan to be totally dressed up for this would need to wear a fully covering abaya and niqaab for coming to the venue and leaving as well. Too many sisters forget that the face with make up is definitely part of the awrah and HAS to be covered.
Im with sunrise on this one, id like to be able to wear what id want on my wedding and if it has 2 be a segregated wedding i got no problem with it, personally i think segregated weddings are much better than mixed one's anyway, i really don't get how one can relax or enjoy themselves with their freinds and family with a gazillion and one non-mehrams which would obviously mean ud have to always be looking down and wouldnt even be able to convserve freely with the people most close to you bcuz every1 would be watching and i really doubt any1 wuld be comfortable laughing with freinds completly at ease while the whole world looks on.

Insh'Allah! Going to the masjid for the nik'ah or having it at home with only family is the way out of this cultural nightmare that a lot of our ummah is in, plus so much more barakah in the simple weddings!

Would like to insh'Allah sis, just having a bit of a hassle finding someone!
You?
lol @ the tree...
as much as i tried... there was no segregation. although atleast they let me choose who i married on my own so that was a +
n they agreed to keep it small... so it was at my [then] house, with about 5-6 families, immediate relatives and some family friends.
but because there was no segregation i wore a black abaya and black n cream hijab [which was my mahr]
i would have preferred to order a nice abaya online for my wedding, but i got married 2 days after i got engaged really. so there was no time :(

like the one i saw recently where they have a massive plate of green olives and every single familly member and guest stands in a long line and has to feed her an olive off a cocktail stick while she sits hijabless in a tight lengha on a throne in mushrik clothing next to her husband to be and brother in law all of them looking exactly like hindu deities.
i dunno how anyone can eat that amount of green olives one after another non stop for more than 40 minutes and why are those wedding videos are always sooooo long
