i was wondering if anyone knew of good parenting books for people expecting their first child. Preferably for the mother. or if not then just parenting in general. Something not too detailed, easy to read. it would be extreeemly helpful if you guys could post some book names inshaAllah.

I have loads of em, at the moment im reading "your baby and child" by penelope leach, its quite a big and fat book with lots of info, some of it is really simple and obv stuff but also it is interesting and it has really cute pics of babies :inlove: my uncle and aunty recommended that book to me as they found it the most useful one when they had my cousin (now aged 2), i would recommend it aswell it seems good so far (i read about half)
also i got supernannys one (jo frost), confident baby care, that is quite good.. bt i think penelope leach one is better.
gina ford contented baby book i read aswell, its a bit too rigid and bossy of a book, because she is very strict on routine everything according to the clock exactly.
'baby secrets' everyone recommends, alot of the mums on this forum hav that book (zee, dhaks etc). havent got that one bt from what they say it is worth reading..

I brought some good books from jumble sales and car boot sales. - Random and lucky finds. There are soo many books out there , its hard to recommend one. I have found them interesting and a good educational experience though.

I used to push my wife to get books from the library too. There is always good stuff there....

Ill get the names of 2 of my fav at present.

:jkk: for all the replies, i knew i'd get some if i posted here. You ppl are  mashaAllah.

i should have made it a bit clearer in the first post..i'm preferably looking for islamic books on parenting. For someone that is not really 'practising' hate using them words.

i bought many... but in the end, i liked this one the most, which was given to me by a sister when my 1st child was born:

http://www.theislamicestablishment.com/Product_Details.asp?depID=1&catID=16&pid=447

v nice book mashAllah. from what to encourage, discourage, stories to tell them while they are growing up, islamic perspective on everything.
most of the books i bought were more the authors opinion. in this book it is the islamic opinion on how to do things with examples of the prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam, sahaba, scholars etc.

i really enjoyed reading it too... so worth getting that for anyone with kids or expecting a child.
