Simply put, affect is usually a verb and effect is usually a noun.

When you affect something, you produce an effect.

There are situations were this "rule" is negated, but don't worry about that.

Hope this helps.

Affect - have an effect upon

I.e. "Will the new rules affect me?"

"This new ruling affects your business"

Effect = consequence

I.e. "the effects of sleep loss" "the effect of the anesthetic"

hope tht simplifies it kiddo
