Would really appreciate it if anyone who has knowledge of this can guide me, insh'Allah.
I know that sleeping on your right side is from the sunnah and therefore we should do it, but what I am not sure about is if it is a sin not to? I do try to sleep on my right, but can't usually get to sleep without moving around a bit and sometimes find my left more comfortable. Occasionally the only way I can get to sleep is on my stomach but I feel bad after because we are not meant to do that, also I don't think it's very healthy too.
Please advise me of the rulings on this. Jazak'Allah khair.

Jazak'Allah for your response Anna. It can be awkward can't it? Maybe I should invest in one of those memory foam matresses, they're supposed to be super comfy but so expensive!
In any case, I really shouldn't be imitating Shaytan by sleeping on my stomach I know..

:rotfl: oohhh so thats what we should do huh! :p Problem solved! Im the same, have to toss ands turn until i find a very comfortable position to fall asleep in. My best friend on the other hand can sleep in one position and wake up with the sheets and blankets still all tucked in on the other side

Sis, i used to fall asleep sleeping on my stomach too- Alhamdullilah its stopped a number of years ago when i consciously made an effort to avoid is as much as posssible due to like you said- it being an imitation of Shaitaan.
Sleeping on your right side has numerous other benefits aswell as it being a sunnah of our beloved Nabi (saw). I guess thats not a surprise since all the sunnahs have benefits on so many ways.

Try and concentrate on praying sleeping duaas and Kalimahs when sleeping rather than focusing on the need to toss and turn. I know thats hard lol- i have the same problem myself but i think if we focus on Zikr as we try to sleep then that should take away the feeling of restlessness and needing to shift about so much inshaAllah. Also i guess, keep reminding yourself that its a sunnah and that inshaAllah by atleast try to inculcate this practice you are being rewarded and will inshaAllah do it without even thinking :hidban:

i read in a book called "Medicine of the Prophet"

Sleeping on the right is beneficial because your heart then leans toward the right and not making it uncomfortable, hence you are easily awakened and not in a deep sleep.
Allowing you to easily wake up for Fajr

Sleeping on the left lets the heart lean in into a comfortable position and thus deeper sleep.

That's interesting, jazak'Allah.
I wonder if that's the same 'Medicine of the Prophet' that I have? My one had some strange things in their though like if you look into a mirror at night and become afflicted with epilepsy it's your own fault...!! But some of the stuff in there did make sense :)

Sleeping on your right side is the most commendable way of sleeping.

I'm not really big on giving scientific explanations for convincing people to follow Sunnah, but this is what I heard from Shaykh Hussain Abdus-Sattar(he is also a medical doctor):

He said to effect that a person sleeping on his left side causes the heart more pressure. Because when sleeping on your left side all the organ(lungs, etc) fall on top of your heart causing your heart to put more effort in pumping blood.

But when sleeping on your right side, your heart is on top of all your organs, making it easier for your heart to do its job.

Anyway here is the lecture by him on sleep. IT IS VERY GOOD. Changed the way(and amount) I sleep. He is a very good speaker.
