View Full Version : Gym or or play sports? What do you prefer?

I prefer sports, especially basketball, tennis and swimming, but since most of these require having someone to play with (and I would like to exercise on a daily basis, without having to wait for someone to make the time for a game) I usually find myself in the gym instead.

So what do you prefer? Sports or Gym? Which one do you think is healthy?

sport is more fun, gym can get boring cos same thing and doing it alone..

i guess the healthiest is having a balance between both? doing sport outside u will also get some fresh air and socialising with others which is a good thing

Well if your into sports you have to be healthy and fit physically, so you have to hit the gym at some point. A equal balance of both.

Indoor Sports: Table Tennis, good players will make you sweat in minutes

Outdoor: Tennis and Basketball

Unfortunately after I started working, maintaining a sporty lifestyle has become tough. Now days I just go to the gym, workout for 2 hours and go home. I play basketball or tennis on weekends.

Outdoor without a doubt, i prefer the great outdoors and go running on a regular basis to keep phisically fit, i avoid gym's at all cost, but i guess its diffrent 4 everyone sum of the ppl i know go 5-6x a week cum hell or high and enjoy it immensly.

I think obviously either method of working out is healthy. I prefer sports though because, mentally, it doesn't really FEEL like you're working out... it's just plain fun! Whereas if you go to the gym with the intent of getting fit, it becomes more of a chore.

I like stuff other than traditional sports also, though. Hiking outdoors is great and nothing beats breathing in fresh air as opposed to sweaty circulated gym air. :vomit:

What I find strange is that (alhamdulilah) I can run for 45 mins on a treadmill, but after 20 minutes of 7-a side football I am absolutely exhausted!

Team sports are so much more fun than going to the gym or jogging. But you need the latter two for conditioning :(

Oh yeah, cricket, can't go wrong with cricket...bowl one over...get knakered, camp out on the field for 10 mins...and repeat!

Really? That's so odd, I'm the opposite in that I can't run for more than 10-20 mins on a treadmill but if I'm running anywhere outside I can go for miles. I think it's because if I'm on a treadmill, I feel like I'm doing all that effort and going nowhere.

I prefer both.

Sport is fun...but it's quite difficult finding a halaal environment to play tennis or basketball :p Some sisters choose to run around in the abayah...I find that weird :eek3: You're meant to dress in comfortable clothing if you are going to do an active sport....which is WHY a halaal environment is required.

As for the Gym..there are plenty 'female only' sessions.

LOL hahah, thats a :nono:

See If you work out at least 3-4 times a week or play plenty of sports, then eating chocolate isn't harmful. But if all you do is eat chocolate.

Playing sports and working out at gym isn't enough. You have to watch your diet too. I follow a low carb and high fiber diet. Bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, tuna sandwich for brunch, garden salad for lunch, tuna or chicken sandwich for afternoon snack and a cup of green tea and rice or roti with chicken/fish curry and veggies for dinner. I drink around 2-3 liters of water.

lOL....I know what you mean. I still eat out often, however WHAT I eat is a different thing. Lets say I got to burger king, I'll get the Filet Of Fish, Fish to be grilled with no Tarter sauce, Tomatoes, Onions and Lettuce. They have to make it because they have the "Have it Your Way" Same water is a Big thing! You need lots and lots of WATERR!! Protein is also very good, like before going to the gym, Power Bar or 100% Weigh Protein, same afterwards.

Yup. Still try to avoid Burger King stuff. All that processed food isn't good for you. I have a metabolism of a horse. lol. Thats why I have to eat often. Protein is good, but its better that you don't take excess protein unless recommended by sports medicine expert. Otherwise it might hurt your kidneys....thats what I've heard.

I prefer both although I'm looking for a Sunday football team to join. I went to the Gym on Friday, the thing I look forward for after exercising is the Sauna and the steam room and a swim in between... Refreshing.

Mashallah Your regime is pretty much spot on there, you must really be into your fitness and workouts! :)

It is good to mix it up if possible, variety is always good. I been playing sports and hitting the gym since my highschool days. Sports help your endurance and so does the gym but the benefit of going to the gym is that it helps your strength and gain lean muscle mass:up:

Yup. But you have to be careful to not become too BIG! Weight lifting...believe it or not you lazy people (including me) can get very addictive, especially when you see results. I'm not ashamed of saying, I used to be fat, and losing all this weight at the gym and gaining muscle feels very good :) ANd i'm a VERY VERY lazy person :p

Now a days im keeping fasts. I find it the best way to diet. I open the fast with a light meal then a bar of chocolate is must lol at night i have dinner.
I dont do workout neither do i go to gym but i do go to football for an hour once a week and that helped me a lot. I also do cycling and swimming. These things are actually better than going to gym.
Its just when you start getting healthy and put some weight on, the family says oh your getting fat lose some weight. And when you lose weight they say oh your getting too stick thin put some weight on. Whats in between? lol

Yea, u have a point there. Weight lifting can get very addictive especially when u are getting results fast. It came to the point where i was getting a little too big that i decided to cut down.
