Wa Alaikum Salam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Allah and His Messenger have told us what we need to know to be successful in dunya and akhira and nothing that is useless. Rasulullah (sallAllahu alaihi wa salam) also used to make du'ah seeking refuge with Allah from knowledge that does not benefit.
So I advise you to read from those two, the best, sources, and be satisfied with what you find.

Yeah, it's not really important for us to know exactly who he was, is it? It's the lessons that we learn from his narration that are significant, not all the other details.

First and foremost, let's look at the meaning of the word 'Dhul Qarnain' in Surah Al Kahf - Dhul Qarnain literally means, 'THE OWNER OF TWO HORNS.' He was a just ruler, a righteous king and a responsible human.
The Holy Qur'an does not give a detailed description of Dhul Qarnain, infact, perhaps just a glimpse.
There is a consensus of opinion among the Ulama that Dhul Qarnain was a believer in monotheism who believed in the resurrection, the Day of Qiyaamah and life after death.

Alexander the "gay" you mean ....
While the society was gay, he did tell his men to get wives and marry. I don't think he was gay though.
