Salaamz all!

jus wanted to get ur opinion on how i resolve a horrible situation!...........there's a guy at work who sits opposite me, now this guy who is around 34ish is the most disgusting, unhygenic person in the world, who makes me physically sick! he breathes really heavily like darth vader like hrrrrrh hrrrrrrh!! he picks his nose, he scratches himslef all the tyme......... now i have tried to move my computer so that it blocks his face, and i dont get to see it, but still i can, if i move my computer then i cant really work, coz the computer is then in MY face!
i have told my manager that can i move but apparently im not able to, let me explain that i am the only muslim in the whole company, the rest is full of "ghoray"!

i need some advice on how i can get my self moved or how i can express my self in a polite yet firm manner that this guy is revolting, i need to get away from him sit some where else!!

i have even politely asked him do u have a breathing problem, coz u breath VERY HEAVILY.... apparently he is "fat" and so breathes like this.............. urgh!

and today he was picking his nose and gathering them in a cup......... eweeee


i have given him evils in the hope he may get the hint but unfortunately im not evil enuf!

Your remark about "ghoray" leads one to believe that you've never heard of white Muslims, or Indian Hindus and Christians, for that matter.

As for your work situation, I believe UK employment law requires that employers provide workers with sanitary work conditions.

Simply tell your superior that your vile coworker routinely engages in unsanitary behavior and that you need to be moved immediately.

If your vile coworker is scratching his private parts, you should tell your employer as much and explain that you find the behaviour immodest and offensive.

(In the U.S., BTW, your work situation would likely lead you to a lawsuit in which you were awarded big bucks. I can't imagine any atty who'd want a jury to hear about the nose picking and the cup.)

So do you think that is why the boss won't move you? Geez, that's nice.

Did you explain, calmly, why you wanted to move, or were you all erratic like you were in this post? Maybe if you explained in a calm, nice, not racist manner, the boss might be quicker to help you out.

sorry if i came about eratic, let me explain, im not racist i merely meant i am the only muslim in the whole of the company, the rest are non muslims, if that was understood wrong im sorry. secondly when i said he scratches i mean everywhere, head, arms legs everywhere, now i dont knw abt private parts cos thanksfully the desk is in the way and so i cant not see, nor do i want to.
im not paying him too much attention and not focusing on my work, but when someone is sitting rite opposite then its bit hard to miss!!!
i have told my manager, all she says is "oh they are men, its wat they are like",......... now forgive me but i dont knw men like that!!

and when i say im the only muslim in the org i mean all the non muslims think this sort of behaviour is ok, whereas i dont............. e.g he is sitting right opposite me, when he stretches his shirt rides up he stomach and i can see it all, not that im staring at him, but which ever way i move my computer i can still see him! so then i jus look at my desk, bt i feel like an idiot when every 2 mins im staring at my desk! (coz thats how often he stretches!!)

last resort is to talk to HR lady, but even then im a bit sceptical, coz gona get a rep as being fussy!

Well yes it sure did to be honest! 'Ghoora' is pale man/boy, 'Ghoorie' is pale woman/girl. An Indian Muslim could call a Kashmiri Muslim ghoora or ghoorie....so you see how silly it is for you to use it?? :rolleyes:
It has nothing to do with race and it certainly has nothing to do with religion.

If you ever need things like this clearing up always ask a ghoorie :up: (like me! :D - but I am white..not kashmiri, even though I couldn't convince the air hostess trying to force imigration papers in my hand on my way home from PK :zzz: )


Anyway...as to your problem, I would go with the whole hygine issue. In most companies (certainly the ones I've been in) it's a very sensative subject but at the end of the day you are meant to arrive at work in a presentable state...and stinking out the office with B.O and the like certainly doesn't cut it. If they are still washing their hands of the matter then point out you find it offensive (for no other reason than it makes you feel physically sick)...and failing that LEAVE.
