sallam alekum/hi

im gona use this thread for a day or two asking questions about blood/circulations and anything related to it.

My first question is:

How long do white blood cells (leukocytes) live for?

a few months ago i read that they live from 18-36 hours, but i just want to make sure

:jkk:/thanks

Assalamu Alaikum Ana_Mujahid

according to http://www.oncologychannel.com/cytopenia/

1-3 days

But white blood cells are a heterogenous group of cells with variable lifespans so to give an overall life expectancy would be too crude. For example esoinophils - 8 to 12 days, basophils - few hours to a few days, monocytes - months and lymphocytes - years (very important to maintain immunity following vaccinations).

I hope this helps
