In the time ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), there was a young child and ‘Umar (RA) loved this child’s worship. This young man had an old father, after ‘Isha’, he would go home and attend to his father. On the way, there was a woman who was infatuated by this child. Everyday, when this young man would go past, she would try to seduce him and everyday he would recite, “Aa’udu BiLlahi Minash shaytaan Nir Rajim,” and go. One day, she tried very hard and she managed and he began to follow her and when he was about to enter the house, the ayah came upon his mind, “Innal Ladhina Taqau Idha Mastahum Taa’ifum Minash shaytaan Tadhakaru Fa Idh Hum Mubsiroon.” “Those who fear Allah and have taqwa, when shaytaan tries to lure them, when shaytaan comes with his plans, they remember Allah and then they see aright.” He began to recite this ayah and became unconscious. Then the woman tried to bring him around, but she couldn’t. Then she called her slave girl and they dragged him to his house. When his father opened the door, he saw his son unconscious and he brought him inside and managed to bring him around. He asked him, “What happened O’ my son?” He replied, “Nothing my father” He asked him again, “What happened?” Then he told him the story and he asked him, “What was the verse you recited?” Then child recited the verse and became unconscious again. His father tried to bring him around, but he had passed away. They buried that very night. And ‘Umar (RA) was looking for this child, they told that he had passed away. Then he (RA) went to his father’s house and said, “Where’s your son?” He said, “He has passed away.” ‘Umar (RA) asked, “Why didn’t you inform me?” He said, “O’ Ameer-ul-Mu’minin, it was night so we didn’t bother.” And ‘Umar (RA) went to his grave and recited the ayah, “Wa Liman Khafa Maqama Rabbihi Janatan” “The person who fears standing in front of his Lord, Allah will give him two Jannahs” And the narrations mention, a voice came out from the grave, “O’ ‘Umar, I have received two Jannahs twice over!”

Fear of Allah s.t. and "takwa" takes a man near to his Creator. Fear of his fellow creatures takes him away from them.
