Salams

Thank you for your interest.

We are trying to arrange some facilities for the employees and also the Muslim community that will be visiting the new Shires shopping centre.

The idea is that if you are within the vacinity than you can pray your salah without having to do qadaah. This will allow people to visit the shopping centre and at the same time ensure that they can fulfill their fardh salaah without any delay.

Apparently the shopping centre have advised that they do have some facilities for the employees however we need 10,000 signatures for them to accomodate the public.

I hope this helps and I am sure that you would have signed the petition.

Salams,

I don't mean to be rude, but is this going to encourage people to hang out at shopping centres?

I can understand providing facilities for employees, but I'm not comfortable with the idea of Muslims spending a lot of time in shopping centres.

Walaikumsalaam bro,

I see your concern but in winter, salaah is so close together that by the time poeple have finished their shopping it's time for the next salaah and rather than delay it, it may be far more beneficial to have somewhere to pray than not.

Also for employees it would be good too so as to have somewhere peaceful and quite to pray

You've got it the wrong way round brother.

people go to shopping centres to shop, not to pray (that's the mosque). and it's better for someone to have no reason for missing salaah than not providing prayer rooms just in case people shop! they do that anyway

i can't imagine people hanging out a shopping centres just coz there's a prayer room nearby :S

and what's wrong with shopping? :inlove:

I live in luton which most of you know is full of muslims, we have one main indoor shopping centre and i was actually going to suggest having a prayer room there especially for the winter as there is hardly any time between salaat.

I guess I'm the only hater then - it's all about online shopping (no women shoving, no queuing & you can just find what you want and buy it - less hassle alhamdulillah)

personally I think prayer rooms everywhere and anywhere are a way for people to avoid missing prayers and to cultivate an important practice amongst Muslims + it can double up as a dawah opportunity too insha'Allaah

I know that Salah are close together in winter but surely knowing that would you not go shopping at the time when it would clash if there is not a masjid or somewhere to pray nearby  not that I'm saying it's a bad idea (I have to say that before everyone starts on me! :p)

Plan your day around your salah, not your salah around your day!

i dont want to be rude or offend anyone
as much as this admirable wont this be used against muslims aswell?

some will just see it as forcing our ways on them and trying to get things our way.

maybe i have been reading to many papers

Maybe they could call it a multi faith room, like the one at heathrow:o

If you read the intro to the petition it says it's for anyone who wants to pray - it's a prayer room not a mosque, i think praying applies to all religions. It's just Muslims who are most active in getting it

Done..........i think its a good idea :)

The shopping centre should think about it this way: If they provide the prayer room for shoppers then more shoppers r gonna shop their. Buisness economics really.......its in their favour.

They are asking for alot of signatures...10,000 just for a prayer room! Do they expect 10,000 people to use it. Its like they are going out of their way to make it difficult.

i have to say i agree with nazia, i'm not saying its a BAD idea...but i dont think its really necessary, leicester is a small enough place to be able to go shopping and be home before prayer time is up

in winter if i need to go shopping, i aim to be there for 10 so i can be home/to the masjid for 1ish so i can pray zuhr...if i;m in central london...i'll make sure i'm around a masjid...pray zuhr and asr and then carry on...no big deal

i'm sure there are better things that muslims can campaign for?

Not strictly true. In winter it's difficult to get home on time for prayer and there's also the muslims who work there that should be considered. I think the prayer facilities would be very convenient and useful for alot of people.
