i need to make up some fasts that i broke. me and my mum were gonna fast together to make things easier.
Here's the problem:
my mum says that you have to have suhoor/sehri before fajr beginning time, but i disagreed with this. I said that you can have sehri even during fajr because fasting is from dawn til dusk, so since fajr is before dawn, you should be able to eat during fajr too, not only before. Who is right here?? My mum was convinced she was right but I think my ones more logical lol...so which is the right one? help would be appreciated cuz i dont wanna leave my fasts til too late

You should finish your morning meal before the start of fajr on the calender. It is preferred by some to finish eating about 20 minutes before fajr starts.

Assalamu 'alaikum
sahoor ends when fajr begins not 10 minutes or 20 minutes before fajr. Rather we know from the sunnah that the time for sahoor ends when fajr comes in. Yes some people end sahoor 10-20 mins before fajr but do they have any precedence or proof for this from the sunnah? No rather this is from their own opinion of piety - in islam its known as 'ghuloo' or going to extremes
Just remember success lies in adhering to the sunnah and every act of worship REQUIRES a proof from either the Qur'aan or sunnah - Question where in the Qura'aan or Sunnah or from the practice of the Prophet do we find ending sahoor 10 or 20 mins before fajr starts?

It's sunnah to leave about 10 minutes time before fajr (I can't remember the exact hadith but it has to do with leaving enough time to recite a certain number of verses). In any case, to the best of my knowledge, if your fast does not start before the start of fajr it is NOT valid.

It is recommended to delay the Sahoor (pre-dawn meal) till just before dawn. Zaid ibn Thaabit said: "We ate the Sahoor with the Messenger (S), then we got up to offer the Salaah (prayer - in this case the Fajr prayer). I asked "What was the time between the Adhaan (call to prayer) and the Sahoor?" He said: "(The time it would take) to recite fifty verses." [Bukhaaree and Muslim]
It must be known that it is allowed to eat, drink and have sexual relationship with one's spouse as long as one doubts and is uncertain that the dawn has started. Allah (T) and His Messenger (S) have made clear the criterion for establishing the Fajr, and this is what one is required to go by

your mum is right suhr lasts up until the athan for fajr, then u finish whats in your moth and what you are holding, ie finish ya glass of juice and your fast has begun, dont feel bad, when i first became muslim i fsted 3 weeks from sunrise until dusk, not realising the fasts were wrong as i should have started from faje athan.
Inshaallah all your fasts will be excepted and your sins forgiven amin.
